The BHS Alumni board is gearing up for the 125th Alumni Celebration. There will be several events to participate in during the celebration on May 26, 2012. New this year will be the 125th Alumni 5K Run. This event will be open to all who wish to participate. Even those who are not Butler Alumni but want to be involved are more than to welcome to participate. The cost to participate is $15.00 per runner.
The event will begin with registration at the new track located at corner of Nursery Street and South Business 71 at 7:30 am. From there participants will be directed to the High Street entrance of the Deaton-Thomas Football Field to park and stage for the run. The run will begin at 8:00 am.
The route of the run will be as follows:
From the entrance of the Deaton-Thomas Football field we will go north on High Street to Atkinson make a right turn and go east on Atkinson to Thompson turn left and go north on Thompson to Vine turn right and go east on Vine turn left and go north on Havana to Adams turn left and go west on Adams to High turn left and go south on High to Dakota turn left and go east on Dakota to Main turn left and go north on Main to Ohio turn left and go west on Ohio to Delaware turn right and go north on Delaware to Pine turn left and go west on Pine to Fulton turn left and go south on Fulton to the High School Faculty parking lot to finish.

Fair Queen and Princess candidates needed...
Attention all young ladies who are interested in becoming this year’s Bates County Fair Queen or Princess, time is running out for you to turn in your entry forms.
Queen candidates must be between the ages of 16 to 22 before July 6, 2012 and Princess Candidates must be between the ages of 13 and 15 by July 6th. Candidates will have the opportunity to meet new people as well as earning money through your ticket sales.
Entry forms must be turned in no later than May 25th and they may be picked up either at the Bates County Farm Bureau on the East side of the Butler Square or at Sage’s Animal Clinic at 716 West Dakota in Butler. To date there is only one entry form turned back in.

More details on Butler's 125th Alumni May 26th
May the 26th marks the 125th anniversary of the Butler High School Alumni Association. The Celebration for all Butler High School Graduates will be held Saturday May 26th. The day will start off with the first annual BHS Alumni 5k run/walk check in followed by the walk at 9 a.m. on the new track of the Butler High School. The Track is located on the corner of Nursery and Orange Street.
Coffee and donuts will be served at the old Butler High School Gym on Pine Street following the walk/run.
The Alumni Parade will line up at 11 a.m. in the east parking lot of Butler High School on Fulton Street and will proceed to the square following line up.
The Alumni luncheon will be held at 1:25 in the cafeteria of the Butler High School, with tours of the elementary and junior senior high school, to be followed by a slide presentation and a musical concert of graduates at 3 pm. Alumni band and chorus members will be entertaining you.
At 4 p.m. the alumni business meeting will be held in the auditorium of the Butler High School, with the time capsule ceremony following the reunion.
We hope all graduates attend at least some of the activities planned by the Alumni Association on May 26th!

Basket weaving classes coming in June

Basket Classes will be held at Poplar Heights Farm on June 9 & 10. On Saturday, June 9 from 11:00 - 4:00 you will learn to make 13" x 8 ½" x 12" high basket with handle. On Sunday, June 10th from 11:00 – 3:00 you have the opportunity to make a larger basket – 17½ x 10 ½ x 13.
If you are interested in either of these classes please contact Mona Hartzler to make reservations. Please let her know if you are interested in Class 1 on Saturday or Class 2 on Sunday. Obituary - Jim Walker

James Dale “Jim” Walker, 44 of Independence, Missouri died May 15, 2012 at his home. Jim was born July 10, 1967 in Dallas, Texas, son of Gary and Carol (Berry) Wright.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Gary Wright; mother-in-law Dorothy A. Elson; and two granddaughters, Lily Heavener and Erianne Soto.
He is survived by his mother, Carol Wright of Drexel, Missouri; wife Angie Walker of Independence, Missouri; son James D. Walker of Independence; daughter April Heavener of Independence; grandsons Austin Heavener and Mason Heavener; stepson August Burns; stepson Nick Blackwell; brother Scott Walker, Sr.; nephews Scottie Walker, Jr., and Michael Hudnall; sisters-in-law Yvonne Morris and Rhonda Hudnall; and cousins Gary Howard, Kim Davis, Heather Blagsted and Charles and Nona Howard.
