Sign up now for Butler June Shootout...
The 2nd Annual Butler June Shootout will be held June 8-10 at the Butler high school and at the grade school for 4th grade through high school girls and boys. Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Last year, 30 teams participated in the event.

Hume news
The Community of Hume wishes to extend their sympathy to the family of Ernest Board formally of the Hume area who passed away on May 20.
The Community of Hume also wishes to extend their sympathy to the family of Francis Lindell who died on May 20 as the result of a tractor accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of both these men. They will both be greatly missed by family and friends.
Set up for Hume Alumni will be Friday, May 25 at 3:00 p.m. On Saturday evening the Hume Alumni will meet at 7:00 p.m. at the gym at the Hume School. Dues for the Alumni are $10.00 per person. The 2012 Senior Class will be inducted into the Alumni Association that evening. Clean up for the Hume Alumni will be Sunday, May 27 at 3:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to help with either set up or clean up will be greatly appreciated.
It is time for the annual City Wide Garage Sale on Saturday, June 16 starting at 8:00 a.m. If you have any questions, you can give Karla Davidson a call at the bank 660-643-7612 or home 660-643-7568.
If you would like your children featured in the new section of community leaders for the 2012 edition of the Hume Fair Paper, please send in a photo along with $10.00 with names and parent information to: Hume Fair Association, P. O. Box 91, Hume, MO 64752 or give to any fair board member. We are also still looking for Prince and Princess Candidates and Rodeo Queen Candidates.

Funeral services for Walter Grimes will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Visitation will be prior to services from 1-2 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Contributions to American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
Walter LeRoy Grimes, age 80 of Butler, Missouri, died Monday, May 21, 2012 at his home in Butler. He was born June 19, 1931 to Merlin Ellsworth and Ruby Collins Dickerson Grimes in Spruce, Missouri.
Walter is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Faye Grimes of Butler, Missouri; one son, Robert Duane Grimes and Arlene of Thayer, Missouri; one daughter, Lynn Rogers and husband Greg of Butler, Missouri; 5 grandchildren, Chris Wimsatt, Justin Wimsatt, Jonathan Grimes, Micah Grimes and Tamara Grimes; 10 great-grandchildren, Kireston, Kamiron, Kerigan, Kendal, Kooper, Blaine, Johnny, Cash, Jasmine and Paige; an uncle, Don Grimes and wife Norma of Archie, Missouri; and an aunt, Hazel Dickerson of Butler, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents.

James Dale “Jim” Walker, 44 of Independence, Missouri died May 15, 2012 at his home. Jim was born July 10, 1967 in Dallas, Texas, son of Gary and Carol (Berry) Wright.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Gary Wright; mother-in-law Dorothy A. Elson; and two granddaughters, Lily Heavener and Erianne Soto.
He is survived by his mother, Carol Wright of Drexel, Missouri; wife Angie Walker of Independence, Missouri; son James D. Walker of Independence; daughter April Heavener of Independence; grandsons Austin Heavener and Mason Heavener; stepson August Burns; stepson Nick Blackwell; brother Scott Walker, Sr.; nephews Scottie Walker, Jr., and Michael Hudnall; sisters-in-law Yvonne Morris and Rhonda Hudnall; and cousins Gary Howard, Kim Davis, Heather Blagsted and Charles and Nona Howard.

Butler Saddle Club purchases books
The Butler Saddle Club recently purchased books for the Partners in Reading Program at Butler Elementary School. The books are Wild Girl, White Dynamite, Curly Kidd, and Armadillo Rodeo. The club purchased 6 copies of each title for preschool through 6th grade to enjoy during the guided reading curriculum.
