Child pornography suspect goes to court this week

62 year old James S. Barker of Rich Hill is scheduled for a pre-trial conference before Judge Debra Hopkins on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Bates County Circuit Court.

Barker was arrested in March after a tip led authorities to his residence and found nearly 6,000 images that were later identified as child pornography and child erotica. Copies of the images were sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to attempt to identify any of the victims.

In an early May court appearance, Barker's attorney Sadie Geppert cited a conflict of interest and a new attorney, Rebecca Elliston was appointed. During the same hearing, a motion for bond reduction was overruled.

Currently, Barker is being held in the Bates County jail on a $250,000 bond.
