DISTURBANCE-Adrian Bates County Deputies responded to a domestic in progress in the Archie area.

TRAFFIC STOP-Rich Hill Deputies conducted a traffic stop on south bound 71 for lane violations.

The 2012-2013 school year will hold many positive changes for students and the community. We hope to begin a new initiative of creating community/school partnerships. We will be encouraging any school sponsored group to find positive ways to give back to the community. This will be our way of saying thank you to the citizens and how can we serve you.

We are continuing our efforts to becoming a more kid friendly district that is focused on what we can do to make students more successful. We have implemented several programs that will help students progress with their peers, and build upon student success. We will have in the high school: after school tutoring, credit recovery, and a revamped BEAR Time to meet the needs of all of our students. We have arranged for our staff to be trained in bullying prevention, and will be actively working to improve the education and behavior of students.

At the elementary, we will continue to implement the Comprehensive Literacy Model, which focuses on interventions that aid students on an individual basis, and creating interventions based upon student needs. These programs will help students gain the content knowledge that will enable them to succeed at the next grade level. We continue to strive to make the educational program more responsive to meet the needs of the individual child.

Back to School Information for Butler R-5 School

* Kindergarten Roundup is Monday, August 12th at 6:30-7:30 PM.

* Elementary Back to School Night is Tuesday, August 13th. Parents are asked to go to the child’s classroom. Preschool, 1st and 2nd Grade will meet in their classrooms at 6:00 PM. 3rd and 4th grades will meet at 6:45 PM, and at 7:15 PM, 5th and 6th grade students will meet in their classrooms.

* The first day of school is Thursday August 16th. Parents should keep in mind that on all Thursdays this year, school will be dismissed approximately one hour early for Teacher Focus Time, where all district staff will work collaboratively to improve instruction. This early dismissal includes the first day of school.

* Elementary Schedule: On normal days at the grade school, doors will open for breakfast at 7:40 AM. Classes at the elementary building begin at 8:10 AM. For afternoon dismissal, car riders are dismissed at 3:05 PM. Bus riders are dismissed at 3:10 PM; walkers dismissed at 3:15 PM.

* High School Schedule: Doors open at 7:30 AM for breakfast and classes last from 7:50 AM to 2:55 PM.

Randall Super is the husband of Elizabeth Super, Postmaster of Cove, AR. Randall is an insulin dependent diabetic, and the family fears he my be confused or incapacitated due to complications from his diabetes.

Randall is 57 years old, brown hair, glasses; 6' 1" height, 180 lbs..
He drives a 2000 F350 Ford, maroon colored pickup, 4 dr. Maroon cap - AR Tags 216JDE

His last contact was Friday 7:30 am July 13 at a Denny's Restaurant in Mount Vernon,IL. He was driving from Cove, AR to his mother's in the Cleveland,OH area, and he should have arrived Friday evening. He could be anywhere between cities, and in the country, and in life-threatening condition.

City of Archie must conserve water...

The City of Archie can no longer pump water from the river according to Elmer Wright, Archie Water Plant Supervisor. The only water Archie has at this time is being pumped from the reservoir. The water plant is at it’s max. The City of Archie is requesting that the citizens only use water for drinking, cooking, bathing, and fire protection.

Please refrain from any excessive outdoor watering as this a waste of a precious commodity with the drought that we are experiencing.

Route H/Deepwater creek bridge closing July 30

The closing of Route H at South Deepwater Creek east of Butler has now been set for Monday, July 30, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Route H will remain closed at the South Deepwater Creek bridge until late September.

The old bridge is being replaced as part of MoDOT's Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program.

Weather and/or construction delays could alter the dates the road is closed and reopened.

The bridge was originally scheduled to close in early July. However, MoDOT requested the contractor doing the bridge project delay the closing on Route H until other Safe & Sound bridges in the area could be completed.

It is certainly not difficult to notice that Missouri is suffering under an oppressive wave of heat that is putting a strain on our state’s No. 1 industry. Agriculture is the financial cornerstone of our state’s economy. The current weather trend is causing serious damage to this industry, as well as potential future effects, including rising costs relating to food. This heat trend is the worst since 1956, according to the National Weather Service, with the state setting a near record string of days reaching higher than 90 degree temperatures with only 46 percent of average rainfall across the state.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), corn production in our country is deteriorating rapidly, dropping 9 percent compared to the weekly crop progress last week. In addition, soybeans have fallen from 40 percent to 34 percent in crop excellence in the last week. With no end to this harsh heat in sight, frustrations are running high as crops wither in the ground.

This week, the USDA declared all counties in Missouri as disaster areas due to statewide heat and drought conditions. Eligible farmers will be able to seek assistance from the USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA), including FSA emergency loans. By keeping track of losses and additional costs incurred by dealing with the ravaging weather, farmers and ranchers will have information necessary to request assistance from the FSA or any of the other federal assistance programs within the eight months following the disaster declaration.
