Notes from the Butler city council meeting last night:

The Butler City Council has been doing its homework. They have to think ahead, to be ready to handle needs as they come up, so they're looking over their standing five year capital improvements plan, and also are looking checking the continuing plan on sidewalk improvements such as drainage, paving needs and other things that happen to a community. Actually, the plans are upgraded each year when the budget is coming out, but they keep an eye on it at all times.

The plans also include such things as ball fields maintenance, replacement of vehicles in all departments, and even such things as salt spreading when winter hits us, and other needs like the dog pound.

Miami FCCLA hosts their first annual 5K Run/Walk

Miami FCCLA Booster Club hosted their 1st annual 5K Run/Walk during the Amsterdam Jubilee Celebration. It was a beautiful sunny day and even the train running though during the race did not hamper anyone’s time. Our top male and female runners of the day were Jeff Markel and Susan Barrett.

We would like to thank all of our sponsors who helped make this possible. Our gold level sponsors – Orphantiques in Amsterdam, Caskey, Hopkins and Wilhelmus, our Silver sponsor Citizens Bank, our Bronze Sponsors- DSWA Certified Public Accountants and Dave’s Quality Auto. Thank you to our
Water Spot Sponsor Community First Bank. Thank you to everyone who made donations and helped to make this day a success.

Elks to re-dedicate Veteran's Tribute this Saturday

The Bates County Elks Lodge # 2653 is honored to announce the Re-Dedication of the Veteran’s Tribute on the Bates County Courthouse lawn. It will be held at the site of the newly installed plates containing 1,040 Veterans names. There are 10 plates finished and an 11th started. A short ceremony will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, October 6. They want everyone to come out and see the Veteran’s names.

It has been a long process but some of their vision is now a reality. AND, the Elks are not finished yet. They still plan to place a monument to honor branches of the military, landscaping around the tribute and install a directory of Veterans names to be placed in the Bates County Courthouse, the Butler Public Library and the Bates County Museum.

The Elks appreciate your support thus far and hope you will be pleased as they honor our Veterans. They continue to accept donations as the project continues.
