Another county road access to 71 being closed
County Road Connection at Route 71North of Rich Hill to CLOSE Permanently
Bates County -- Drivers who use 6708th County Road in Bates County will no longer be able to access Route 71 north of Rich Hill beginning Monday, Oct. 15, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
The county road's connection to Route 71 will be removed permanently as part of the progress toward upgrading Route 71 to Interstate 49.
Crews also will remove several crossovers in the Route 71 median north of Rich Hill.
During the work, drivers can expect one southbound lane to be closed on Route 71 where crews are set up working.
The work is part of a larger project to build outer roads north of Rich Hill on both sides of Route 71.
* The west outer road will run between County Road 3778 and the Marais des Cygnes River.
* The east outer road will run between County Road 4016 and Route B at Rich Hill.
Completion is scheduled for early November 2012.
I-49 Wrapup
The outer road construction is in the final group of U.S. 71 projects needed before the highway can be designated as I-49 by the end of 2012.
An interchange project at Vernon County Route TT is under construction to help complete the upgrade.

It's National Fire Prevention week
It is important to have a home fire escape plan that prepares your family to think fast and get out quickly when the smoke alarm sounds. What if your first escape route is blocked by smoke or flames? That's why having two ways out is such a key part of your plan. This year’s theme,“Have 2 Ways Out!”, focuses on the importance of fire escape planning and practice.

Many enjoy good old fashioned hoedown
Hume news
The Prescott Country View Nursing home hosted a good ole country “Hoedown” on Saturday, October 6. A cool evening was enjoyed sitting around fire pits enjoying the live Christian music by “Rushing Wind”. Mountain oysters, hamburgers, hotdogs and all the fixing’s were delicious. Auctions and a cake walk were enjoyed by many. The high light of the evening was a line dance demonstration performed by the “Country View Hoedowners” dressed in their overalls and straw hats. It was a fun time for all.
The Annual Hume PTO School Carnival will be held on October 26. Please come out and support the carnival. A lot of hard work goes into keeping this tradition going.
The Hume United Methodist Church will host the annual Lord’s Acre Day Barbecue and Auction on Saturday, November 3. The meal will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the auction will start at 1:00 p.m.
