National School Bus Safety Week begins today...

National School Bus Safety Week runs October 15th-19th

In cooperation with the Butler R-V School District and Apple Bus Company, Lisa Hager, the District’s Transportation Director, will be providing training to all of the elementary students K thru 6 and their teachers during this week. During a school year, there is a possibility that every child one time or another may have the opportunity to ride in a school bus. We want each child to be aware of “How To Stay Safe In and Around A School Bus” and be knowledgeable of what to do in case of an actual emergency. During this week, each student will receive classroom instruction on school bus safety procedures and then will have the opportunity to participate in an actual school bus emergency mock evacuation.

Here are some safety tips for all of us to be aware of as parents and members of the community:

• Children should wear bright clothing to be more visible by the school bus driver and other motorists

• Remind children not to move toward the bus unless the bus is completely stopped, then wait for the driver’s signal

• Remind children not to stop & get the mail before the bus has completely moved out of the area

We would like to ask all motorists to be aware when a bus is stopped and the stop sign is activated, that it is illegal to pass the bus and by doing so could possibly lead to injury or death of a child.

School busses are the safest way to transport our children to/from school-please help us keep our children safe!
