BCMH EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH OF JANUARY




Karen Landers  is recognized as the Bates County Memorial Hospital Employee of the Month for January, 2013. Karen has been employed as a Registered Nurse since 1994. She has worked as an Emergency Room nurse and is currently the RN Supervisor of the Outpatient Specialty Clinic. Karen maintains a calm presence to our patients and is able to make them feel at ease about their health care needs. Her kindness and compassion is shown in the way she communicates to her patients, never making them feel she is too busy for them. The hospital is very fortunate to have Karen on its healthcare team.

Update on house fire yesterday in morning in Butler

BUTLER FIRE DEPARTMENT

On January 3, 2013 at approximately 3:18 A.M., the Butler Fire Department, with an automatic mutual aid response from Adrian Fire Dept., responded to a report of a residential structure fire at 310 N. Water St., Butler.

On arrival, a large body of fire was found at the front of a single story, wood frame residence, with obvious fire extension to the roof/attic area.

Units had been advised while enroute that all occupants were out of the residence.

The fire was extinguished with heavy fire damage to the area of origin, and extension to the attic area over the living room. The remainder of the structure and contents sustained minor to moderate heat and smoke damage.

The fire was declared under control at 4:04 A.M., with the last units leaving the scene at 5:18 A.M.

The cause was determined to have been accidental in nature, originating at the southeast corner of the residence.

Butler woman injured in Henry County Crash

  Tonia Walker 38 of Butler received moderate injuries when the mini van she was driving was rear ended by 24 year old Micheal S. King of Clinton Missouri on Thursday afternoon about 130pm in Henry County. Walker was taken by ambulance to Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton. The accident was worked by TPR B M PARKER /1134/ AND HENRY COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT.

Obituary - Frances Wilda Smith


 Frances Wilda Smith, 80, Adrian, Missouri died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Adrian Manor Nursing Home in Adrian. A memorial/visitation will be held from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 8 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Heartland Hospice or the Adrian Christian Church.


  Frances was born February 15, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of William Henry and Blanch Evelyn (Chandler) Smith. She moved to Adrian as a child where she attended school and graduated from Adrian High School in 1951. After graduation, Frances moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she became a receptionist and manicurist at a beauty salon for over 51 years. She moved back to Adrian after her retirement in 2002 to be near her family. Frances liked to do crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, read and enjoyed visiting with children.


  Preceding her in death were her parents, three half brothers, one half sister and one brother-in-law. She is survived by one sister, Evelyn Scott; nephew, John Scott (Peggy); niece, Bonnie Kunkelman (Larry); and many, many great-nieces and great-nephews, all of Adrian, Missouri.

Obituary - Wesley Pike


  Funeral services for Wesley L. Pike will be 10:30 AM Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Mullinax Funeral Home in Butler, Missouri (660) 679-0009 with Pastor Ron Dunlap officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial with U.S. Navy Honors in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Memorial contributions are suggested to Shriners Hospital or the Wounded Warriors.   Wesley was born April 8, 1927 to John Wesley and Mabel (Spain) Pike in Butler, MO.  They later moved to the Double Branch community where he attended grade school and was a member of the Double Branch Christian Church.
  Wesley attended Butler High School where he was captain of the football team, President of the Student Body, President of the FFA, and he was the recipient of a Missouri FFA State Farmer’s award.
  After high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served on a destroyer as a boiler technician until the end of World War II.  When he was discharged from the Navy, he attended college in Springfield, MO (SMS) where he studied drafting and played football.
  Wesley returned to Butler where he worked for Standard Oil Co. for several years and married Nelda Carroll in 1949. He worked with Harry Mills and later Leroy Jones building houses, specializing in cabinetry.  In the early 70’s, he opened his own woodworking shop, where he built custom cabinets and furniture. Many homes in this area, to this day, display his amazing talent.
  In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and being in the outdoors. In addition, he liked coaching and following all local sports. In the late 1950’s Wesley was a guest of Harold Ensley on “The Sportsman’s Friend,” a hunting and fishing show, where he displayed his handmade miniature working guns as well as fishing rods and reels.  He enjoyed time with the family, and surprising family members at Christmas with handmade gifts.
  Wesley was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of the home, Nelda, his son and two daughters, Randy, Evonne Matthews, and Janet Robinson and one daughter-in-law, Patricia Pike, and two sons-in-law, Fran Matthews and Rocky Robinson. Wesley is also survived by six grandchildren: Dillion Pike (Channing), Michelle Pike, Patrick Matthews (Charlotte), Allison Matthews, Amanda Acree (Daniel), and Harley Robinson, and four great-granddaughters: Isabella Bo and Josephine Harper Pike, Elaina Acree, and Evangeline Matthews, with another on the way.

Early morning house fire in Butler

   
Butler Fire Department responded to a structure fire around 3:30 this morning at the residents of Brett and Ashley Isaacson of 310 N. Water. When the fire department arrived the front of the house was in flames. There is heavy damage to the front part of the house. No injuries and the family got out safe. The cause of the fire is pending.

Butler Thrift Store Opens this Saturday


  The Butler Food Pantry Thrift Store will test their wings this Saturday ( January 5th) as a “ Soft Opening”, for the new facility. The hours this Saturday and the following week will be from 9 am until 6 pm.
  The Grand Opening will be announced at a later date. The Food Pantry Thrift Store is now in its new location which is 901 South Outer Road and is located in the former Bowling Alley Building and will be open for shopping this Saturday January 5th.
