Obituary - Lois Lucille Cumpton
Lois Lucille Cumpton, 73, Butler, Missouri, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, Missouri with visitation from 10:00-11:30. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.
Obituary - Donna Pieratt
Funeral services for Donna Pieratt will be 2 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2013 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Rev. John Park Winkler and Rev. Ruth Winkler officiating. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Contributions to Butler First Christian Church.
Donna Lea Pieratt, age 78 of Butler, Missouri, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. She was born July 20, 1934 to Walter Earl Sr. and Cora Myrtle Scott Wyatt in Independence, Missouri.
Donna is survived by her husband, Phillip Pieratt of Butler, Missouri; one son, Clifford Pieratt and wife Regine of Amsterdam, Missouri; five grandchildren, Kevin Pieratt and wife Jackie, Jason Pieratt and wife Dana, Jessica Johnson and husband Chris, Crystal Ryan and husband David and Melissa Pieratt; nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Board Summary February Regular Butler Board of Education Meeting
b. The board reviewed cost
estimates for the bond. Of the items discussed, a general figure of $102,000
had been proposed for the greenhouse, Leviton is reviewing floor plans for
occupancy lighting, and a few teachers had viewed other school’s science labs
for ideas for Butler renovations. It was agreed that the school architect would
be solicited to create specifications on the preschool and the science lab
renovations. The board discussed the site layout for the elementary parking
lot, including 6 inches of asphalt in the bus lane and 4 inches in the
remainder of the lot. Additionally, figures will be put together on the
potential technology upgrades to the district.
c. The board accepted the bid
from Davis, Lynn, and Moots for the district’s auditing services.
f. The board accepted the bid
from Grand River Turf to establish grass on the slope of the football field.
g. The board decided to continue
having meetings on Monday nights through the spring.
h. The board member Brad Davis
reported that the Bear Backers purchased track uniforms and a device for the
track team to get performance feedback from a track app.

the retirement of Larry Beckham and the resignation of Danielle Freeman with
regret.
The board
rehired all district administrators.

Miami FCCLA
Caitlin Slattery and Jocelyn Cook participated in the
Promote and Publicize category. Through their project, they were able to
increase their club affiliation by 45%. They also hosted numerous community
activities, such as a volleyball tournament and community 5K, to increase community
knowledge of FCCLA. Caitlin and Jocelyn received gold medals and will be
advancing to State.
Kara Goddard took part in the Chapter Service Project
Display category. Kara collected 622 hygiene products and clothing items. She
donated them to the Sheffield House, a homeless shelter for women with
disabilities and their children. Kara received a gold medal and will be moving
on to state
Kaylee Ewbank partook in the Entrepreneurship category. She
created an intricate business plan for a t-shirt company called Kaylee’s
Kloset. Kaylee received a silver medal.
Lee’A Hoss took part in the Fashion Construction category.
She sewed a floor-length prom dress. She earned a silver medal. Ruth Taylor and Kristen Cook participated in the
Environmental Ambassador category. They instituted a plastic and aluminum
recycling program in our school. They received bronze medals. Congratulations to all our participants and Good Luck at
state!
Senior Night/ Scholarship athletes signing day
Friday February 15th, 2013 will be Senior Night at Butler High School. JV Boys will play first and they start at 5 pm to be followed by Varsity Lady Bears and Boys They will play Summit Christian. Also Friday will be High School athletes signing day for the ones who received scholarships to play sports at the next level. Bates County Live will update that when it becomes available. Please get out and support local schools and athletes.
Butler District Basketball
Monday February 18th, 2013 The Lady Butler Bears will start district basketball action against the Lamar Lady Tigers. This game will begin at 5:30 pm and FM.92 The Bullet will bring you live play by play action.
On Tuesday February 19, 2013 The Butler Bear men will take on The Pleasant Hope Pirates in the opening game of Boys Districts. This game starts at 4 pm and also will be Live on air courtesy of FM.92 The Bullet. Please get out and support your local school as they compete for a District title and possible State Title. If you can't make it out tune into The Bullet 92.1

Miami FCCLA Dinner set for 2/15/13
Miami FCCLA will be having a Free will donation dinner at 5 pm February 15th, 2013 at the school during the basketball game. The money will be used for the students who qualify to compete at a state level McBee's of Amsterdam will provide Smoked Meat, home made roll, coleslaw, baked beans, dessert and a drink. Please come out and support Miami FCCLA and Basketball.
