Butler Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt

The Butler Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Sunday March 31,2013 at 1 pm. This Easter Egg hunt will be held at the Hermann Baseball Field at the fairgrounds in Butler.

Hume News March 18, 2013

     Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Troy Wehar, who passed away following a courageous battle with cancer.  He was a young man that we all watched grow up to become a wonderful family man with strong faith. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

    Erin Armentrout, daughter of Mark and Carla Armentrout competed at the Missouri Bow Hunters Association State Indoor Championship Tournament held March 9 and 10 at Linn State Technical College, she shot a combined score of 592 with 67 X”s winning the Young Adult Female Freestyle division.  Erin is member of the Missouri State 4’H Archery Team and the Bates County 4-H Archery project.

      Several attended the Lion’s Club Annual Pancake Supper on Saturday, March 16.  They served delicious pancakes, sausage and eggs.  The Lion’s Club appreciates all who came out and supported the supper.  The Lion’s Club is an organization responsible for the up keep of the ball field and also have bought glasses for community members in need.

       Hume Christian Church News:  On Easter morning, Sunrise services will be held at 6:30 a.m. with worship service at 11:00 a.m.

       Hume United Methodist Church News:  Maundy Thursday Candle Service will be held on March 28 at 7:00 p.m.  Worship service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday.

       Don’t forget the Community Easter Morning service with the Hume Community Choir performing “Amazing Love” at 7:30 a.m. in the multi-purpose room of the Hume High School.  A carry-in breakfast will be held following the performance.  All are invited to join in the celebration.

        If you don’t have a church home all the Churches in the Hume area invite you to worship with them.

Old Man Winter Might Visit Again

Here is the  latest forecast for Thursday's potential snowfall. Please note that this system has higher uncertainty than usual, so these amounts are very preliminary and will likely change with time. A track further south or warmer air mixing in could significantly cut back on snow amounts. On the other hand, a track further north or colder temperatures could cause these values to be adjusted upward. 

SPRING HOUSE CLEANING

 As the weather gets warmer our thoughts may be turning to Spring housecleaning and garage sales. If you think a garage sale might be too much work we would be happy to have your items donated. Even if you decide to have a garage sale, The Pantry Thrift Store would appreciate your leftovers. We accept donations of furniture, large and small appliances, dishes, knickknacks, home decor, clothes, shoes, purses, toys, etc. With Spring just around the corner we are planning a garden spot in the Thrift Store and would welcome flower pots, lawn ornaments, bird houses and garden tools. The Pantry Thrift Store's proceeds go to the Community Food Pantry in Butler to buy food for the needy in Bates County.  

The Thrift Store is located at 901 South Outer Road in Butler is just South of Deems Farm Equipment. We'd love you to come buy and shop as well. The store is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is an area outside where you can drop off donations 24/7. Remember we are a 501c3 Non-for-Profit and your donations to us may be tax deductible. If you need help with large item pickup you call the Thrift Store at 660-227-6101 and ask for Joyce or Graca.

1 vehicle accident on West 52 Highway

Bates County Sheriff and Missouri State Highway Patrol is in route to a 1 vehicle non injury accident located on West 52 Highway and K Highway just West of Butler. The vehicle traveled of the roadway and struck some road signs. Please use caution when traveling in this area the vehicle is sitting on K Highway.

Obituary - Walter "Pete" Price Cummings

Walter "Pete" Cummings, 82, Grandview, MO died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at his home. Funeral service 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Atkinson Funeral Home with burial in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO. Visitation from 1:00 - 2:00 on Thursday. Memorials may be made to Kansas City Hospice.
