Vernon County Sheriffs Office: Stolen Vehicle found through OnStar‏

The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office is working an investigation of two cars that were reported as stolen from the Schell City area Thursday morning. According to a press release form the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, both cars were stolen from the same residence sometime during the early morning hours on Thursday. One of the stolen vehicles was found wrecked in a ditch on M Hwy later that morning. Sheriff Jason Mosher said deputies entered the vehicles as stolen and had a bolo put out on the second vehicle (a black CTS) that was still missing. Deputies began working with Western Missouri 911 to track the vehicles “OnStar” system and tracked the vehicle to Kansas City. Dispatch continued to give KCPD updates of the vehicles location in Kansas City until it was found. One person was taken into custody by KCPD Officers.

Sheriff Mosher said his office is working with investigators from Kansas City and that he expects charges from Vernon County to be filed soon as well. The name of the person arrested in Kansas City has not been released pending the filing of formal charges.

Weather Update: Severe Storms Tuesday Night

Lots to talk about this morning! Many of you are waking up to happier lawns after widespread rains last night. Several spots near and north of I-70 picked up over an inch of rain. KCI's 1.25" reduced this year's rainfall deficit by 25%.

Now for Tuesday: If you live in northern Kansas, northern Missouri, southern Nebraska or southern Iowa you are under the gun for a very strong complex of thunderstorms Tuesday night. These storms will have the potential to produce widespread wind damage, very heavy rains and a few tornadoes.

Right now it looks like areas north of the Highway 36 corridor stand the best chance of seeing these storms as this is where all of the models are taking them. However: these storm complexes have a tendency to dive south, especially when they grow large and severe, so we are including areas down to I-70 in the "moderate" risk area for severe storms in case the models are wrong. This could be a significant severe weather event so stay with us for updates!
