Weather Update: NWS Severe Weather Outlook

Today is one of those days to be weather aware, especially if you live across portions of Nebraska, Iowa, as well as northern Kansas and northern Missouri. Scattered storms could develop early this afternoon across portions of the area. However, the more widespread severe weather episode will develop well northwest across Nebraska, northern Kansas and western Iowa late this afternoon.

A powerful complex of thunderstorms is expected to develop and move to the east and southeast this evening and into the overnight hours. This complex, wherever it forms, will be packing quite a punch. Widespread wind damage could be possible, and rainfall amounts over Nebraska, Iowa, and extreme northern Missouri could be as high as 2 to 4". The area with the highest risk for damaging winds in the local area this evening and overnight will be along and north of the US Highway 36 corridor (St. Joseph to Chillicothe to Macon). We'll need to keep an eye on this system, because they tend to have a mind of their own at times.

Please keep weather aware today and know your severe weather plan. Be sure to share this message with your friends, family, and others.
