Jewell Henry Gillogly, 101 of Drexel, Missouri passed away June 19, 2014 at Adrian Manor, Adrian, Missouri.
Jewell
was an only child born June 24, 1912 to Arthur Cline Gillogly and Katie
Florence (Henry) Gillogly on the family farm one mile east of Drexel in
Cass County where he lived most of his life. He was united in marriage
to Ella Marie Van Slyke on November 20, 1935.
Jewell
was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved grandfather Joel
Henry, a granddaughter Brenda Kay (Gillogly) Beckett, and an infant
great-granddaughter Andrea Marie Alonge.
Jewell
is survived by his three children: son Ralph (June) Gillogly of Drexel;
daughters Evelyn (Wayne) Koopman of Drexel; and Marlene (Cecil) Shannon
of Overland Park, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and
three great-great-grandchildren.
Jewell
attended 12 years of school in Drexel, where he graduated in 1930.
After graduation Jewell continued to farm with his father and hauled
coal from 1930-1933 to Drexel to sell. He would leave home about 1:00 AM
and drive two teams of horses hitched to a box wagon to Good’s Coal
Mine west of Amsterdam and sold the coal in Drexel. He made $2.50 a
load.
Jewell
played violin in a community orchestra each Thursday night in Merwin,
Missouri at the bandstand from 1930-1932. Few people had cars so most of
the large crowd came by buggy to hear the music. Jewell used a team of
mules that pulled a railroad iron to level the ground for the
construction of the older part of the Drexel Baptist Church where he was
a member. Jewell became a Christian at the age of 11 and has always had
a strong faith in God.
Jewell
farmed many years with his father and then with his son Ralph until the
age of 93. Jewell worked very hard during his lifetime and had the
ability to fix machinery and built a barn. He shucked a lot of corn by
hand and always took care of his parents and family.

Weather Update: Hot, Muggy Conditions Continue
Very warm and muggy conditions are the main story for today, especially since we'll be missing the relief provided by breezy conditions we've seen over the last few days. Scattered storms are possible Saturday and there *is* some potential for strong wind gusts or marginally severe hail with any robust storms, but the overall coverage of stronger storms should be fairly low. Thunderstorm chances will continue into Sunday and will become more likely Sunday night into Monday, but no severe weather is expected during that period.
