Traffic Alert: Rich Hill

Poplar Street between 3rd and 4th street in Rich Hill near the school will be temporarily closed during construction of the new safe room beginning Monday July 7th

Weather Update: Nice 4th of July



The temperature at KCI has fallen to 53 degrees early this morning. While still unofficial, this breaks the record low for the day of 55 set in 1968.

The cooler than normal temperatures will continue through Friday. Fourth of July activities and fireworks displays look to be dry as well. Any chances for storms look to be after midnight and continue into Saturday. Summer will return this weekend and especially early next week as the hot and humid conditions return.

2 Swimming beaches closed at Truman Lake

WARSAW, Mo.,—The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Harry S. Truman Lake announces the immediate closure of two swimming beaches on the lake due to elevated levels of e. coli bacteria.


Berry Bend Beach and Bucksaw Beach have been closed until further notice. These beaches will re-open as soon as e. coli have returned to safe levels. In the meantime, Corps beaches that remain open for swimming include Long Shoal, Shawnee Bend, Thibaut Point and Windsor Crossing.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Arrest Report 7/2/14

  • On 7/2/14 around 7:30pm The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 20 year old Alyssa N. Thomas of Belton, Missouri. She was arrested on 1.) 2 Misdemeanor outstanding warrants - Butler Police Department 2.) 3 outstanding warrants - Raymore Police Department. She was booked into the Bates County Jail and her status is listed as bondable.

  • On 7/2/14 around 7:40pm The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 44 year old Chad W. Graybill of Lees Summit, Missouri. He was arrested on 1.) Felony possession of a controlled substance 2.) Misdemeanor possession of Marijuana 3.) Unlawful use of drug paraphernalia 4.) Display plates of another 5.) No insurance. He was booked into the Bates County Jail and later released.

Vernon County Sheriffs Office Press Release: Two arrested during search warrant in Nevada‏

Two wanted felons were arrested early Wednesday morning after a search warrant was served in Nevada. According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Deputies, Nevada Police and members of the recently formed Vernon County Special Response Team, served a search warrant at a residence on the 700 block of West Parkhill Drive around 5:30 am. Sheriff Jason Mosher said his team was searching for Edward Hallam, 33 of Nevada, and had reason to believe the wanted felon was in the residence. “Hallam had numerous warrants including resisting arrest so we sent the Special Response Team to get him” Mosher said. The Sheriff said the team found Hallam hiding in the attic and had to go up and get him after he refused to come down. The Sheriff also said Necole L Brown, 28 of Milo was arrested on a felony warrant of Stealing Leased or Rented Property as well as other misdemeanor warrants. Hallam and Brown were transported to the county jail. Deputies and Nevada Police found drugs in the residence but would not disclose any details pending the continuing investigation. Sheriff Mosher said the priority on this warrant was for the safety of other people residing in the residence, “the warrant was executed in a safe manner even though the suspect resisted, so our team did an excellent job.”

10th Annual Appleton City Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show


The 10th Annual Appleton City Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show will be held Saturday, July 12 at the City Park. Check-in is from 9:00 a.m. to noon and the Car Show will be from noon to 3:00 p.m. There will be a $10 entry fee per vehicle. There will be judges for all classes with 5 car classes, 3 truck classes and one each motorcycle and rat rod class. There will also be 10 special pick awards. The first 150 entries will be given Dash Plaques. D.J. Brandon Wallace will present music on the Stage. There will also be a 50-50 drawing and door prizes.
