Home Invasion in Clinton

Clinton Police have made an arrest in an early morning home invasion that took place in the 200 block of North Fourth Street just before 5:00 A.M. on Sunday, July 6th. Police were called to the home and contacted the resident who stated that he awakened to find a man and a woman in his home. As he chased them out the back door of the home a physical altercation between the resident and the man ensued. The woman produced a handgun and pointed it at the resident who then released the man. The woman then struck the resident in the head with the handgun. The suspects then fled the area on foot.  

The resident reported that his cellular telephone and a handgun had been stolen from his house.Police recovered a cellphone left at the scene by the male suspect. An investigation of the phone revealed that it was owned by a subject named Howard Wesley Groves Jr.  of Lowry City, Missouri. Around noon today Clinton Police contacted and spoke to Groves in the 800 block of East Franklin and then placed him under arrest for 24 hour investigation of 1st Degree Robbery. Groves was transported to the police department where he confessed to his involvement in the robbery.  

Clinton Police Detectives have also now identified the female suspect as 31 year old Sissy L. Beck of Kansas City, MO.  Beck is not only wanted for this robbery, but also for an earlier burglary that occurred at the same residence. Clinton Police are working with Henry County Prosecuting Attorney Richard Shields to obtain warrants for the two suspects.  Groves remains incarcerated in the Henry County Detention Center with a bond of $100,000.

Weather Update: Severe Storms Possible Overnight


Strong to severe storms developing over northern Missouri, southern Nebraska and northeast Kansas this evening will spread southeast into the Missouri Ozarks and southeast Kansas during the overnight hours. Wind gusts over 60 mph and hail to the size of quarters are expected with the strongest storms.

Nevada Police Department 4th of July Weekend Summary

 
  • Nevada police officers report the arrest of a 23-year-old Nevada man over the Fourth of July Weekend in connection with the alleged assault of another man. Nevada police Sgt. Steve Bastow says officers responding to a business in the 700 block of N. Osage during the early-morning hours of Friday found the 37-year-old victim unconscious with a head injury after the alleged assault. Officers found the suspect and he was booked at the Vernon County jail on a felony assault charge. Sgt. Bastow identified the suspect as Cameron Lee Cartwright and his original bond was $25,000 cash only before judge Neal Quitno changed it to $25.000.00, cash or surety as long as he does not consume alcohol. Anyone with information that might help police combat crime is encouraged to call the Nevada Police Department, 417-448-5100.



  • Nevada police officers investigated a domestic assault and two vehicle tampering incidents over the Fourth of July weekend. Sgt. Steve Bastow says one vehicle tampering incident was reported Thursday by the owner of a 1998 model truck who told officers a mechanic told him paint had been put in the vehicle fuel tank sometime between June 17 and June 24. The other vehicle tampering was reported about 11:00 p.m. Friday night in the 1400 block of East Austin Boulevard. A witness told officers a suspect fled the scene on foot and officers are looking for a 20-year-old Nevada man for questioning. The domestic assault was reported about 2:45 p.m. Friday afternoon when a woman told police her boy-friend threatened her with a knife in the 300 block of South West Street. Officers arrested a suspect but his name has not been released, pending the formal filing of charges.

Attention Contestants in Saturday's Ultimate Horsemens Challenge:

 
The horse stalls will be available for your use after 10 pm on Friday night. The stalls are 10X10 and are first come first serve.

Please bring a panel for the front of the stall. If you use a stall, you must clean up after your horse. If there are no stalls available, you will be able to tie your horses to your trailer. 

The camping spot has been moved. When you enter the fairgrounds, come in thru the first entrance. The camping area is in the grassy area south west of the arena on the west side of the road. Camping is primitive. There are not going to be water or electric hook ups. 

Concessions will be available at the courses the day of the race. They will be provided by the Adult Recovery Court.

Janice J. Downey, 74, of Harrisonville, MO died Monday, July 7, 2014 at her home. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville with burial in Orient Cemetery. Visitation 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral Home.
