Cass County Sheriff's Office: The Sheriff's Citizens Academy

The Cass County Sheriff's Office is set to begin the fall session of the Sheriff's Citizen Academy. The Sheriff's Citizens Academy (SCA) initiated by Sheriff Dwight Diehl is a free eight-week course that gives citizens an in-depth look and hands on training into the career of law enforcement at the Sheriff's Office. Citizens will be instructed by deputies on the subject of patrol, jail, communications, investigations, court, and community policing.

Courses are held on Wednesday nights from 6:30 p.m. until approximately 9:30 p.m. Each week a new topic will be introduced and discussed. Citizens will also have the opportunity to ride along with a patrol deputy, work with jail deputies and communication officers. This enables them to observe firsthand how the Sheriff's Office handles incidents.

Participants must be 18 years of age or older, have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions and must be a resident or business owner in Cass County.
The Sheriff's Citizens Academy will begin on August 20th, 2014 and is limited to 20 persons.

Weather Update: Extreme Heat Today... Isolated Severe Storms Tonight

Today will easily be the hottest day of the summer with extreme heat expected!! Today, highs will rise into the mid to upper 90s and factoring in the humidity, heat index values will be in the 103 to 110 degree range. As such a heat advisory is in effect until 7PM this evening. All precautions should be taken to beat the heat, including: staying hydrated, avoid working or exercising outside during the heat of the day and if you must be outside take frequent breaks in air conditioned environments, and wear light clothing. Do not leave children or pets in the car. Check on children, pets, and the elderly to make sure they are handling the heat well.

A break from the heat will come tonight as a cold front moves into the area. Thunderstorms will be possible along the front tonight with the chance for isolated severe storms (mainly north of I-70) capable of producing damaging winds and large hail.

Be safe everyone!! How do you plan to beat the heat??
