Traffic Accident In Butler

The Butler Police Department is on scene of a minor non injury traffic accident on West Ft. Scott Street and West Street in front of The Dollar General Store in Butler.

The road is partially blocked at this time. Please use caution when in this area.

Pursuit ends in bean field
( Lamar, Missouri) -  The Barton County Sheriffs Office responded early this morning to a theft in progress from a residence located near V- highway North of Lamar. When Deputies located the suspect vehicle a short time later the vehicle failed to yeild and a pursuit began. 

The pursuit ended after traveling through a corn field and ending up in a bean field. The vehicle was identified as being stolen out of Nebraska. 

The suspects fled on foot and hid in the bean field. Barton County K-9 Units and the Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted in searching for the suspects. A short time later, 4 Juveniles taken into custody without incident.

MSHP Releases Labor Day Holiday Statistics


Three people died in traffic crashes during the 2014 Labor Day holiday weekend. Last year, there were eight fatalities. The 2014 counting period ran from 6 p.m., Friday, August 29, through 11:59 p.m., Monday, September 1, 2014. During this period, the Patrol investigated 293 traffic crashes, which included 111 injuries and three fatalities. Troopers made 80 arrests for driving while intoxicated in 2014, compared to 119 arrests last year. (Note: in 2013, troopers investigated 248 crashes, which included 112 injuries and four of the fatalities.)

There were zero boating fatalities over the 2014 Labor Day holiday. Troopers investigated 11 boating crashes involving four injuries. There were no drownings reported. Troopers also arrested 13 people for boating while intoxicated over the weekend. During the 2013 Labor Day weekend, officers investigated nine boating crashes, which included seven injuries and no fatalities. There were no drownings in 2013. Troopers arrested 14 people for boating while intoxicated during last year’s Labor Day weekend.

The Bates County Cattlemen will be serving- steak sandwiches, sliced beef, beef burgers and drinks at Hucksters Day. Proceeds to go to the REBECCA  HERTZOG  Benefit Fund. Everyone is welcomed to come out and enjoy some great food.

Butler’s City Wide Garage Sale Registration Deadline

The deadline to purchase a permit to participate in Butler City Wide Garage Sale is noon Thursday, September 4th. If you want to participate now is the time to sign up.

The the cost is $10 which includes your permit and a spot on the map.
Sign up now at the Chamber office at 5 N. Main Street in Butler, the sale will be held on Saturday, September 13th.

REMINDER :Bear Backers Glow Run set for September 20

The Butler Bear Backers Glow Run 5k is all set for the evening of September 20. Open registration and check in will start at 7 pm, with line up at 8 pm at the Butler High School track. The run will begin at 8:30.

All participants must fill out the registration/waiver form- download a copy by clicking the link below, print, sign and you must register by Sept. 4th to be guaranteed a T shirt.

REMINDER: Appleton City Fair to be on public TV TONIGHT

 
On Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 7:00pm, and again on Thursday and Saturday, Kansas City Channel 19 will feature a story by the KC Star writer Charles Gusewelle.
 
Mr. Gusewelle's wife was a winner of the Appleton City Stout Prize Baby Show held yearly at the AC Fair, and this will be a feature of the segment, as well as some footage of the 2014 AC Fair. It started in 1903, so many babies have entered the show
