Hume News

The community of Hume wishes to extend their sympathy to Chad and Jill Spangler and family on the loss of the son, Jack. Jack and his precious little smile will be missed by all. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

The Parent’s as Teachers group under the direction of coordinator Lisa Brooks has play group every Thursday from 3:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the preschool at the Hume School.

There will be a card shower for Mildred McGee, 2379 W. Katella St., Springfield. MO 65807. Mrs. McGee will turn 97 years young on March 14.

On Saturday CCH (Christian Campus House) at MIZZOU in Columbia, Mo performed Sketches and Sweets as a fundraiser to improve technology in CCH. Performers were Kaitlee Metcalf, Tori Sears, Abby Yarick and Matt Yarick. All parents and families arrived safely and enjoyed the performance.

Jean Zinn enjoyed having her daughter, Cathy Thurow of Illinois come and stay this past weekend with her. On Saturday they enjoyed going to Nevada for a fun day out. They enjoyed meeting up with Jean’s siblings and other family members for lunch at Buzz’s. They also stopped by Moore Few where they enjoyed visiting with her brother, Orton Wilson.

The Hume Christian Church Haiti Missions will be hosting a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 21 at the Larry L. Berry Gym in Hume. If you would like to participate it will be $10.00 per team member with a maximum of 5 players. Players must be 15 years old. All participants will receive a free T-shirt. Admittance to watch is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for students. Games time will 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will also be a bake sale and if anyone would like to donate some bake goods please bring them to the school on the day of the game in the morning.

Adrian Optimist Students of the Month

The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian schools. Criteria for this honor center on outstanding academic and civic achievement and school spirit. Staff at each of the schools make the selection, and their decision is based on expansion of these criteria. Selection is based on the criteria, but a student stepping up to a particular task will come to play in it. Each student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks”.

The Miami Student of the Month for January is Alyssa Bialowas, senior daughter of Pamela and James Bialowas. She enjoys Yearbook, Cheering, and FBLA in school; outside of school Alyssa finds time to work in Youth Court. Alyssa states “I’m inspired by my family and friends; they are all there through everything in my life and I’m thankful for that.” She plans to attend Fort Scott Community College and continue studying for a career in criminal justice. Staff at Miami states “Alyssa shows that she really cares for people. Her actions are sincere and thoughtful.”

The Ballard Student of the Month is Sabrina Walsh, junior daughter of Dan and Karla Walsh. PE Instructor, Samie Hill states “She (Sabrina) is a student that is always kind to others. She tries her best in the classroom and in every school setting. She is the first to arrive to work on something and always asks for the next job once she has worked hard at completing the previous one. I feel she is a student that has a genuine understanding and sympathy for others around her. She has developed into a quiet leader roll within her class.”

The Adrian Student of the Month is Rachel Mann. Rachel is the sophomore daughter of Rayland and Lisa Downey. In school she enjoys participating in marching and concert band as well as TSA and FCCLA. She takes piano and percussion lessons and volunteers at Adrian Manor Nursing Home. Rachel also loves participating in community theatre whenever she is given the chance. Rachel states “I thank God for how much he has blessed me.” She plans to major in nursing at the university yet to be decided; leading to becoming a nurse practitioner.

Obituary - Sunie Lou Pasley

Sunie Pasley
Funeral services for Sunie Pasley will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Visitation will be prior to services from 1-2 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel in Butler. Burial in Johnstown Cemetery, Johnstown, Missouri. Contributions to Johnstown Cemetery Association. 

Sunie Lou Pasley, age 84 of San Angelo, Texas died Friday, February 27, 2015 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas. She was born October 26, 1930 to James and Rena Spears Harbert in Johnstown, Missouri.

Sunie is survived by two sons, Brad Wayland and wife Micki of Raymore, Missouri and Tim Wayland and wife Sharon of Olathe, Kansas; one daughter, Victoria Peterson and husband Russell of San Angelo, Texas; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James E. Harbert.

Bates County Sheriffs Office: Needing assistance on a few cases

On 02-23-2015 Bates County Deputies responded to a burglary that occurred earlier in rural Bates County just outside of Drexel. The victim stated that upon arrival to her residence she noticed someone had removed the screen from her kitchen window. Once the screen was removed the suspects opened the window climbed into the residence and opened the front door.

The suspect or suspects then removed the following items from the residence. 2 grey craftsman chainsaws, Blue in color Harbor Freight generator, one black in color Remington pump action BB gun, 2 fishing poles one Shimano and one Zebco, and an antique wine bottle.

On 02-26-2015 Bates County Deputies responded to a theft that had accrued earlier in rural Bates County in the Appleton City area. The reporting party stated that he had a five day old Black Angus bull calf stolen. The calf was black in color and had a white naval.

St. Clair County Sheriffs Office: Burglary reported at CMH Pharmacy

On March 1, St. Clair County deputies and the Osceola Police Department responded to a burglary at the Citizen's Memorial Hospital Pharmacy, Osceola. It was discovered an estimated 7,000 prescription narcotic pills including hydrocodone, morphine and oxycodone were missing from the pharmacy. Several pieces of evidence were located at the scene.

During the investigation search warrants were served and the prescription narcotic pills were located at a residence on SW 50 Road, Osceola. James Schumtz, 38, Osceola, was taken into custody. Formal charges are pending. Members of the Mid Missouri Multi Jurisdiction Drug Task Force also assisted with the investigation. The street value of the drugs missing from pharmacy was estimated at $83,000.

Arrest warrant issued for Appleton City woman

On Feb. 26, a St. Clair County arrest warrant was issued for Ragina Barbour, 40, Appleton City, charging her with a class C felony of possessing a controlled substance. The charge stems from an investigation conducted by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, Appleton City Police Department and Mid Missouri Multi Jurisdiction Drug Task Force at Barbour’s residence on East Arbor Street, Appleton City. During the investigation methamphetamine's was located. Barbour was taken into custody and later released pending the formal charge. Bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety.

St.Clair County Sheriffs Office: 2 arrest on warrants issued on March 1st

On March 1, Sarah Bloom, 47, Osceola, was arrested at the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office on three Humansville Police Department warrants, no insurance, failing to obey traffic control device and driving while revoked. Total bond is set at $350 cash only.


Karen Kennedy



On March 1, Karen Kennedy, 37, Clinton, was arrested in St. Clair County on a Hickory County warrant for failing to appear in court on a misdemeanor charge of stealing. Bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety.
