Obituary - Lowell Dale Luttrell

Lowell Dale Luttrell, age 92 of Butler, Missouri died Thursday, March 5, 2015 at his home in Butler. He was born March 25, 1922 to Theodore Harold and Mattie Elizabeth Vancil Luttrell in Mountain Grove, Missouri.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Joan Luttrell of Butler, Missouri; two grandsons, Kevin Luttrell and Eric Luttrell; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ada Pearl; and two sons, Gary Dale and Harold Newton.

Friends may call from 9-5 Monday, March 9 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Bakersfield, California. Contributions to Heartland Hospice.

Appleton City woman arrested in Henry County

On March 4, Amie Sieleman, 33, Appleton City, was arrested in Henry County on a St. Clair County warrant charging her with a class C felony of possessing a controlled substance. The charge stems from an incident on Feb. 9 when St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office deputies and members of the Mid Missouri Multi Jurisdiction Drug Task Force conducted a search warrant at a residence on East Burbank Street, Appleton City. During the search methamphetamine was allegedly found in Sieleman’s bedroom. Bond is set at $10,000 cash or surety.

Rich Hill Tigers basketball season ends on a high note

The final curtain call for the Rich Hill Tigers came on Wednesday night at Clinton against the Sacred Heart Gremlins in the sectional round of the play-offs. The Tigers came into the game with record of 24-4 and Gremlins with a record of 23-4. They had both earned the trip with Rich Hill winning District 13 and the Gremlins winning the 14th District. The two schools have played before in football but not basketball and not at this level. The anticipation for both teams was high. Sacred Heart’s team was last year’s defending 2A State Champion. The early prediction was that the Tigers stood little chance against such a perennial power house. The Gremlins have been in the play offs for 7 of the last eight years.

As game time approach the Rich Hill faithful filled a large portions of the large Clinton gym ready to cheer for their Tiger team. Surprisingly both teams took to the floor with little apparent nerves. The early game started at a fast pace but both committing early turnovers. The Gremlins seemed to show little respect for Rich Hill and the Tigers showed little fear of them. At the end of one quarter it was the Gremlins 19 and the Tigers 16. With more confidence in the 2nd quarter the Tigers showed that they had come to play and were well prepared. The Tigers used a chaser defense that limited last years All State player to no first half points and at half time the Tigers trailed 29-30.

Wheat Scouting Workshop to Be Held March 19 at Rockville

A Wheat Scouting Workshop will be held Thursday, March 19, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Rockville, Missouri. MU Extension Agronomy Specialist, Pat Miller, will be discussing wheat stand counts, insects, weeds and diseases. The field is located on the east edge of Rockville across from the anhydrous tank. Producers are encouraged to bring samples to be identified.

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Hello from the Missouri Capitol! It has been a pleasure to welcome so many District guests to the Capitol recently. I always look forward to visiting with you both at the Capitol and around the District. It is an honor to serve on your behalf in the House of Representatives. Following is a summary of some of our recent activities and legislation:

Ft. Leonard Wood Pentagon Listening Session:
Missouri’s Elected Officials joined a packed house Monday, March 2, 2015 at Ft. Leonard Wood in support of retaining the military personnel being considered for reduction. Up to 5400 Soldier and Army civilian jobs are being evaluated in the downsizing at Fort Leonard Wood, which will have a large impact on the Ft Leonard Wood region as well as Missouri.

Representatives from the Pentagon listened to Governor Nixon, US Senator McCaskill, US Senator Blunt, and US Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler, as well as a large number of state and local officials testifying at the Listening Session. It was an honor to be part of the MO House of Representative’s group attending. Our message was loud and clear in support of Ft. Leonard Wood and the advantages of keeping all the military bases strong in Missouri.

Also this week many of my colleagues made the trip from Jefferson City to Clayton to pay their respects to State Auditor Tom Schweich, who tragically passed away last week. It was a somber and emotional moment as we remembered this man who had worked so hard for our state, and who had such a bright future of service ahead of him. Upon returning to the Capitol, the House met to approve a resolution honoring Schweich.
