Angel Catfish Dog Memorial Fishing Tournament

The date for the Angel Catfish Dog memorial tournament will be Sunday, June 28th, take off at 0800 and weigh in at 1600. Registration will be at The Old Oar House Inn, located in Warsaw Missouri, from 0630 - 0700, followed by a brief meeting to discuss some basic rules. 

No rod limit, $50 entry fee and any number of people can fish for that fee. Half of the entry fee will go toward first place and the other half will go to the Odessa Animal Clinic to help their needs and hopefully cover the fee for someone... to adopt an abandoned dog. 

Bass Pro Shops Bass Pro Shops of Independence, Mo. and Tracker Boats have also donated gift cards as well as several other prizes to be given away. 

Sergeant Jones is trying to get a few donations to cover a second and third place finish. There will be a 5 fish limit, 2 over 34 inches and 3 under 26 inches, or 1 over 34 inches and 4 under 26, or 5 under 26 inches, this only applies to blue cats. 

Flatheads any size can be weighed. All fish need to be alive and all fish over 34 inches will be released after being photographed and weighed.

Obituary - Orlan Francis Schultz

Orlan Francis Schultz
Orlan Francis Schultz, age 92 of Frisco, Texas passed away on March 8, 2015 in Plano, Texas. A graveside service, with military honors, will be held 11:00 am Saturday June 20, 2015 in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, MO. Services under the direction of Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660)679-0009. Contributions are suggested to the American Legion Post #46, Butler, MO. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Orlan was born on September 28, 1922 in Tipton, Missouri to Ollie and Bessie (Carey) Schultz. He married Genevieve (Genny) Pauline Smith on February 14, 1946 in Tipton, Missouri. Genevieve sadly preceded him in death in 2010 after 64 years of marriage.

Orlan is survived by his son, Francis (Frank) K. Schultz and daughter-in-law, Janelle (Clark) Schultz of Frisco, Texas; grandson, Neal R. Schultz and wife, Johanne of Frisco, Texas; great-grandson, Austin R. Schultz of Frisco, Texas; nieces Ruth Ann Thiel of Prairie Village, Kansas, Mary Lee Hall Wilson and husband, Larry of Jacksonville, Florida and close family friend, Anthony Bennett of Plano, Texas. He also leaves behind other nieces, nephews, family members and dear friends.

Orlan served his country in the United States Marine Corps during WWII and was the recipient of the Purple Heart awarded for wounds received as a result of enemy action at Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands. Upon returning from his military deployment, Orlan went into commercial construction development where he supervised commercial and business construction of numerous hotels, banks, fast food restaurants, shopping malls in Missouri, Florida, Kansas and Alabama.

Orlan prided himself on his knack for making anything in his yard grow and his "green thumb" was apparent from the beautiful landscapes he produced from each homesite where his family lived. He and his wife had been long term members of Disciples of Christ Christian Church and served as Deacon and on the Building Board.

Nevada Missouri man arrested on drug charges

The Nevada Police report that they have concluded an investigation resulting in a drug arrest. On June 10th, an off duty Nevada Police officer located a subject known to be wanted on a felony warrant, in the 400 block on N. Osage. The officer established surveillance and notified on duty personnel.

On duty police arrived on the scene, made contact and executed the arrest warrant. At the time of the arrest, the suspect was in possession of suspected methamphetamine, illegal mushrooms and marijuana.

The subject was arrested on drug charges and a felony fugitive warrant for Receiving Stolen Property. He was then transported to the Vernon County Jail.

Taken into custody was a 36 year old Nevada resident, identified as Jeremy Lee Pyle. Additional arrest warrants are expected.

Citizens are encouraged to contact the police if they have any information that would be helpful to combat crime.

New Pharmacy in near future in Butler

BATES COUNTY, Mo - Butler and Bates County will welcome a new pharmacy in the near future. Summers Pharmacy is currently remodeling the building at 11 W. Dakota Street on the south side of the Butler Square and hopes to have their doors open by the first of July.

Summers Pharmacy is owned by Ryan and Julie Summers, who currently operate Summers Pharmacy in Clinton, and are excited to continue the same great service in the Butler area.

Ryan has a local connection. He is the son of Kent and Nancy Highley Summers of Clinton. Nancy is the daughter of the late LeRoy and Bonnie Highley of Adrian as well as the nephew of Owen and Sandy Highley, formerly of Adrian. Sandy was in the banking business in Butler for over 30 years, and Owen was the former manager of West Central Agriculture.

Summers Pharmacy is a welcome addition to our area, they will offer free delivery as one of their may extra services. Hours will be Monday through Friday 8:30am to 6:00pm Monday through Friday and on Saturday from 8:30 to noon.
