Multiple vehicle accident on I-49 in Cass County

The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County EMS and the Cass County Sheriffs Office are responding to a multiple vehicle accident in the Northbound lanes of I-49 around Mile Marker 170 at this time.

The accident is around two miles South of North Cass Parkway in rural Cass County is said to involve six vehicle at this time.

Traffic is said to be backing up in this area at this time. Please use caution if you must travel in this area.

25 Year Mystery: Where is Cheryl Kenney?

NEVADA, Mo. -- 25 years ago Saturday, a woman from Nevada, Missouri vanished, leaving no clues behind.

Law enforcement says despite the length of time that has passed, closing this case is still a priority, and they need the public's help."She was a local, a native of Nevada. At the time, I believe she was living near Walker," said Sgt. Jeff Baker, Nevada Police Department.

Sergeant Jeff Baker says Cheryl Kenney was a mother of two, a wife and a honest, hard working person. That all changed the night of February 27th, 1991.

"Apparently, she closed the store about 10 o'clock that night, and was never seen again," said Sgt.Baker.

Sgt. Baker says over the years, thousands of hours have been spent on dozens, if not hundreds of interviews, all aimed at finding out what happened to Kenney.

Update: Fire rips through home West of Passaic Friday morning


On Friday, April 29 at approximately 9:29 A.M., the Butler and Adrian Fire Departments were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at Rt. F @ County Rd. 1801 west of Passaic.

On arrival of the first Butler unit, heavy fire was found in the south end of a single wide mobile home. The fire was determined at that time to be in the Adrian district.

The fire declared under control at 10:30 A.M., with the structure and contents sustaining heavy fire damage. The last units left the scene at 11:37 A.M.

The fire was difficult to control due to the fact that a second roof had been constructed over top of the original roof.

There were no injuries.

Fugitive McCoy arrested in Vernon County

Nevada police report they are continuing an investigation of a felony assault with a motor vehicle that occurred on Thursday, April 28 at about 5pm. Nevada Police Detectives became aware that a subject wanted for several felonies was hiding in the 800 block of E. Hickory.

As detectives and patrol officers approached the scene, the wanted man was observed walking towards a parked car occupied by a young female. Noticing the arriving police, the wanted subject fled on foot and the female driver in an attempt to flee accelerated at a high rate of speed and crashed her car into a marked patrol car approaching the scene.

The police officer was temporally trapped in the crashed patrol car and received an arm injury.

The female driver received a facial cut from the deployed air bag of the car she was fleeing in. The unlicensed female driver was identified as a 15 year reported runaway from Cedar County, missing for nearly three months.

The Juvenile’s name will not be released. She was treated and released from NRMC and turned over to the custody of Vernon County Juvenile authorities, charged with Assault. The police officer was also treated and released from the hospital.

The wanted male felon ran with police pursuing on foot. Police witnessed the subject crawl under a structure in the 600 block of Osage, where he was successfully taken into custody.
The arrested subject is a 24 year old Vernon County resident identified as:

McCoy was a fugitive on Felony warrants from three counties, including Assault, Burglary and Receiving Stolen Property.

Nevada Police Detectives had been actively looking for both subjects for several days.

In addition to the active warrants from three separate counties, the Vernon County Associate Circuit Court has issued the following additional charges on McCoy.

Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Resisting Arrest. Total combined bond is $10,000 cash only.

Geraldine Maxine Thornhill, age 87 of Ballard, Missouri peacefully passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at her sons's home in Ballard. She was born December 21, 1928 to Layton Doss and Corda Eurie Johnson Smith in Bates County, Missouri.

Geraldine is survived by her son, Alva Thornhill and significant other Becki Smith of Butler, Missouri; one sister, Betty Creath of Overland Park, Kansas; one granddaughter, Amanda Baker and husband Jess of Garden City, Missouri; a great-granddaughter, Paisley Jo Baker.; and her beloved pet Inka. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eugene; and two brothers, Bill and Rob Smith.
