Obituary - Janice D. Mainard

Janice Mainard 77 of Harrisonville, Missouri formerly of Garden City, Missouri departed this life Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Crown Care Center, Harrisonville, Missouri surrounded by love and family.

Janice is survived by her husband Sidney Mainard of the home; two sons, Tim Mainard and his wife Francie of Harrisonville, Missouri, and Mark Mainard and his wife Candy of Raymore, Missouri; three daughters, Dolores Boney of Grandview, Missouri, Yvonne Beasley of Harrisonville, Missouri, and Jacqueline Laurila of Rogers, Arkansas; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and one on the way; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 27, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri

The family will receive friends Monday, June 27, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Update: Fire destroys Gas Station in Adrian

Around 11:26 pm last night the Adrian Fire Department along with mutual aide from the Butler Fire Department and Central Cass Fire Department responded to a structure fire at RC Gas Station located at MO-18 & McCulloh St, in Adrian.
 

The fire was contained to a certain area of the gas station and no pumps outside were in danger.
 

The building sustained heavy fire and smoke damage.
 

State Fire Marshall's were called in to investigate this fire and the cause of it was determined to be accidental in nature but cant rule out being electrical in nature.
 

The inside of the building was a total loss and no injuries were reported.
 

Fire crews remained on scene of this structure fire until 3:27am.

Significant Weather Advisory in effect for Bates County

A Significant Weather Advisory is in effect until 8:30pm for Bates County. 

A storm capable of producing dime size hail and winds up to 45mph was located 7 miles North of Nevada moving North at 40 mph.

How about a nature walk?

Missouri State Parks is hosting a Wildflower Walk tonight at 7 pm at the Battle of Island Mound State Historic Site. A state parks guide will lead the walk while providing interesting details about the landscape.

The Battle of Island Mound site is located southwest of Butler- take 52 highway west to K highway; turn south on K to CR 1002; turn west on 1002 and the park will be on the south side of the road.

Bates County FSA: Committee person needed

Needed in Bates County: a Committee Person for the local Farm Service Agency

This year, nominations and elections will be held in LAA 2, which includes townships of; Deer Creek, Mound, Grand, Shawnee, Summit, Deep Water, Spruce, and Mingo.

The nomination period for the Bates FSA county committee is ongoing. Nomination forms must be postmarked or received in the Bates County FSA Office by close of business on Aug. 1, 2016. County Committees are unique to FSA and allow producers to have a voice on federal farm program implementation at the local level.

To be eligible to serve on the FSA county committee, a person must participate or cooperate in an agency administered program, be eligible to vote in a county committee election and reside in the Local Administrative Area (LAA) where they are nominated.

Producers may nominate themselves or others as candidates. Organizations representing minority and women farmers and ranchers may also nominate candidates. To become a nominee, eligible individuals must sign form FSA-669A. The form and more information about county committee elections is available online at: www.fsa.usda.gov/elections.

Ballots will be mailed to eligible voters beginning Nov. 7. Ballots are due back in the Bates County Office no later than Dec. 5, 2016. All newly elected county committee members and alternates will take office January 1, 2017.

Obituary - Susan K. Jones

Susan K. Jones, 61 of Rich Hill, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Breezy Meadows in Butler, Missouri. Cremation with private family memorial services held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hume Baptist Church, Hume, Missouri or in support of the family. Services under the direction of Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler, Missouri (660-679-0009). Susan Kay Jones was born February 13, 1955 in Abilene, Kansas to Norman and Beulah Arnold Lamer. She grew up in Salina, Kansas graduating from Central High School. She then attended training and received her CNA license. Susan was united in marriage and blessed with four children, three boys and a girl. She continued to work very hard and successfully raised her family as a single mother. Susan lived in Salina for many years before moving to Kearny, Nebraska to be close to family and finally, moving with her daughter to Rich Hill, Missouri.

Susan was preceded in death by her mother Beulah Lamer, a sister Connie Jo Strika, and by a son John David Jones. She is survived by her son Michael Jones, daughter Tammara Rice and husband Nicolas, of Rich Hill, MO, daughter-in-law Anne Jones, granddaughter Hannah Jones, grandsons Josiah and Bennet Jones, niece Carrie Flores and her children, Xavier, Malachi, Conner, and Jace, niece Rachel Strika, nephew Steven Lamer and his children, Troy, Gretchen, Jessie, Isabella, Levi, and Logan, nephew Robert Lamer and his son Landon, and by niece Stephanie Lamer, all of Kearny, NE. Susan loved each of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children.
