Yes, more rain...

The day started with a bang, and there's more on the way- although an earlier thunderstorm warning has expired, more rain is expected throughout the next few days, some potentially heavy at times. Watch for flooded areas and debris in the road as you head out this morning.

Some areas including Butler received heavy damage including trees down, roofs damaged and power outages.

Obituary - Nile Lee Ogle

Nile Lee Ogle, 87, passed away at his home in Nevada, MO on Sunday, July 10, 2016. Nile was born on November 29, 1928 in Sullivan County, MO to James Russell and Maggie Ethel (Clabough) Ogle. Nile married his childhood sweetheart Mary Elizabeth Payne on March 13, 1949 in Kirksville, MO and she survives of the home.

Nile and Mary came to Nevada in November 1949 where all their five children were born. He worked for many years as Manager of Producer’s Grain for his brother, Lester Ogle. Nile and his sister-in-law, Betty Ogle, opened Style-A-Rama Beauty Salon in 1963. Shortly after he bought the salon and ran it successfully for over 53 years. He also ran the beauty salon at Morningside Place for many years and owned the Silver Dollar Mobile DJ for ten years as well as K & W Tax Business. Nile worked up to the day of his cancer diagnosis in May 2016.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of the home; son Phillip Ogle; daughter, Cheryl Martin; son Lee Ogle; daughter, Mary Lisa Norman (Roy Dale), and son, Mark Ogle (Debbie); all of Nevada; grandchildren, Justin Pryor (Nicky), Lara Ogle, Ashley Norman Melech (John Daniel), Aaron Ogle, Jessica Norman Stone (Christopher), Steffan Lee Ogle, Duncan Ogle; great-grandchildren Hannah Pryor Addyson Pryor, , Brinley Melech, Kaylie Melech, Conner Wade Stone. Nile was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in the Newton Burial Park. The casket will be closed to the public. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13,, 2016 at the funeral home. Family requests memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Belton man arrested for shooting at officers during standoff in Benton County

A 62 year old Belton, Missouri man was arrested today in Benton County, Missouri near Warsaw after a close to 3 hour standoff with police.
 

The incident occurred when the Sheriffs Office in Benton County and the Missouri State Highway Patrol went to a residence on a well being check in the Southwest part of the county.
 

When the deputies and troopers arrived on scene to the house they were advised that a man had a gun and was making several threats to shoot police officers.
 

During the standoff the man had made several verbal threats and derogatory remarks about police to negotiators on the scene.

The suspect fired one round from a unknown weapon through a sliding glass door over deputies head but later walked out on the porch and surrendered.
 

He was booked into the Benton County Jail on a a 24 hour investigative hold and formal charges are pending.

Donald Lee Foote
Donald Lee Foote, 87, Archie, Missouri, died Saturday, July 9, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Archie, with visitation from 10:00-11:00. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, Missouri. 
 
Donald was born February 4, 1929 on a farm west of Archie, Missouri. He was the oldest son of Homer and Blanche (Lawson) Foote. Donald grew up on a farm in the Archie community. He, his parents, and sister, worked to milk cows and farm their land. He loved to play basketball and was a member of one of the most successful high school basketball teams that played at Archie High School. Donald graduated from Archie High School in 1947.

Donald married Geraldine Noell on September 13, 1950 and divorced in 1970. To this union two children were born, Jeannette and Cindy. In 1951 Donald was critically burned while working on a road crew that was building US 71 highway. He credited the “new drug” called penicillin and Dr. Lusk who stayed with him 24 hours a day as the reason he was able to survive. After months and months in the hospital, he made the decision to follow his dream and become a farmer. 


In the fall of 1961, they purchased a farm east of Archie that was bordered by the Grand River. Donald developed that land into a productive farm and served as the President of the Grand River Drainage Ditch Board for many years. On November 27, 1971, Donald married Georgia Wilburn. They farmed together until their retirement in 1991. They then moved to Warsaw, Missouri where they fished at their favorite spots on Truman Lake and enjoyed good neighbors and friends.

Donald loved to be outdoors. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. In 2007, when their health became an issue, Donald and Georgia moved back to Archie to be near their families.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Wallace, and his wife, Georgia. He is survived by his two daughters, Jeannette Gwinn and husband, David, Lone Jack, Missouri, and Cindy Drury and husband, Rick, Archie, Missouri; four step-children, Vicki Yoakum, Topeka, Kansas, Terry Wilburn, Archie, Missouri, Christy Ogle, Archie, Missouri, and Randy Wilburn and wife, Cheri, Archie, Missouri; one sister, Janet Carroll, Adrian, Missouri; 3 grandchildren, Aaron Gwinn, Doug Drury, Molly (Benny) Palmer; one great-grandchild, Quinn Palmer; 9 step-grandchildren; 19 step-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

General Mills recalls Betty Crocker cake mix



NEW YORK (AP) - General Mills Inc. is recalling two flavors of Betty Crocker cake mix sold in the U.S. and one flavor sold in Canada because they use flour that was recalled earlier because it could contain E.coli.

The flavors include Betty Crocker Delights Super Moist Party Rainbow Chip Cake Mix, which is called Betty Crocker Super Moist Rainbow Bit Cake Mix in Canada.

In the U.S, the mix carried a Package UPC 000-16000-40997 and "better if used by dates" including 25MAR2017, 28MAR2017, 27APR2017, 28APR2017, 23MAY2017, 24MAY2017, and 25MAY2017.
 
The U.S. recall also includes Betty Crocker Delights Super Moist Carrot Cake Mix with UPC 000-16000-40987 and "better if used by dates" including 12APR2017, 13APR2017, 14APR2017, 28May2017, 29May2017, 30MAY2017, 07JUL2017 and 08JUL2017.

In Canada, the Super Moist Rainbow Bit Cake Mix has a Package UPC of 000-65633-46589 and "better if used by dates" of 27AL2017, 08JN2017 and 09JN2017.

A General Mills supplier used Wondra flour implicated in a July 1, 2016 recall to make the flavor chips used in the recalled cake mix flavors. No illnesses reported to date have been connected to cake mix.

Memorial services for Susie Hess will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Double Branch Christian Church with Brother Bill Perkey officiating. 

Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri.

Susan Kay Hess, age 63 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, July 10, 2016 in Butler. She was born September 17, 1952 to Max Wendell and Ursula Kate Wambach Pryor in Kansas City, Missouri.

Susie is survived by her husband, John Hess of Butler, Missouri; one daughter, Kate Welker and husband Adam of Butler, Missouri; a stepdaughter, Darla Cassin and husband Mike of Overland Park, Kansas; one sister, Jennie Fowler of Raymore, Missouri; and three grandchildren, James Glen, Angela Susan and Christopher Cole Phillips. She was preceded in death by her brother Charles Mike Pryor.
