All you need to know about 2016 Butler Youth Football Sign Ups

Butler Youth Football sign-ups will begin this Friday, July 15th. Forms can be picked up & dropped off at Citizen's Bank in Butler (north-east corner of Orange and Ft. Scott Streets) beginning the 15th. 

Sign-ups will also be held at the Red Shed at the flag football field (south of the soccer fields and pool) at the following times:

  • Saturday, July 16th from 10AM-noon
  • Sunday, July 17th from 4PM-6PM
  • Saturday, July 23rd from 10AM-noon and
  • Sunday July 24th form 4PM-6PM
Tackle Camp will be held Saturday, July 23rd from 8:30-11:30AM and 6-9PM (to avoid the worst heat of the day).

Flag Camp will be held Saturday, August 13th from 8:30-11:30AM.
Camp sign-up will be on the same forms as season registration, but can also be done the morning of the camps at the Red Shed at the flag football field.
Fees for the 2016 fall season are as follows:
Tackle season fees: $100
Flag season fees: $45
Camp fees for both flag & tackle: $25.

Two arrested after burglary in Ballard area

Around 11:30am today the Bates County Sheriff's office and Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County responded to a report of a home burglary just South of Ballard on BB Highway.

The suspects were said to be in a unknown white in color Dodge Durango.

The suspects were quickly located and identified.

A unknown male and female were taken into police custody without incident.

The stolen property was recovered and will be returned to the victim.

Traffic stop leads to Butler man being arrested for drugs

On 07/12/2016 at approximately 2010 hours Bates County K-9 Narcotics Unit conducted a traffic stop in Bates County at the intersection of AA and county road 2010. The driver of the vehicle was Charles Westmoreland Jr. of Butler. 

The K-9 officer conducted a search of the vehicle and located approximately ¼ ounce of methamphetamine inside the Monte Carlo. 

The methamphetamine was collected as evidence. The suspect was arrested and is currently in custody at The Bates County Jail. 

Upon further investigation, the K-9 Officer discovered that Westmoreland had three felony warrants out of Bates County for: 

  • Failure to appear x three Possession of controlled substance C felony $20,000.00 cash only 
  • Resisting arrest, Distribution of controlled substance B felony $20,000.00 cash only
  • Distribution of controlled substance B felony $20,000.00 cash only

Eldorado Springs teen pleads guilty to killing grandparents in Vernon County

A Eldorado Springs, Missouri man is facing up to 22 year in prison for killing his grandparents in 2014 in Vernon County, Missouri.

Herman and Rosie Ellison was shot to death in their rural Vernon County home by the couples 17 year old grandson Logan Ellison.

Police say that after Mr. Ellison shot his grandparents he then went on and attended school and a football game that evening.

Mr. Ellison who is now 19 years old plead guilty to 1.) Two Counts 2nd Degree Murder 2.) One Count of Robbery.
