Obituary - Janet Morrisey

Janet Morrisey, age 61, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at her home. She was born on August 21, 1954 at Pleasanton the daughter of Harley Perry and Helen May Kramer Johnson. She attended school in Pleasanton and graduated from Pleasanton High School. She married William "Bill" Morrisey on December 6, 1975. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2015. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents. Janet cleaned houses and was a true homemaker. She enjoyed gardening. The most important thing in Janet''s life was her family. She and Bill attended all of Eddy and Joey''s activities and supported them unconditionally. She is survived by her two sons, Edward "Eddy" Morrisey and William Joseph "Joey" Morrisey, a brother, Larry Johnson, and two sisters, Judy Patterson and Dorothy Stuart.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Inurnment will be at the Eureka Cemetery. The family requests contributions to the Janet Morrisey Memorial, use of which will be determined at a later time, c/o Schneider Funeral Home, Box 525, Pleasanton, Kansas 66075. Nevada man arrested in Jasper County

On 8/14/16 around 1:30am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Jasper County arrested 62 year old Leonard P. Zoglmann of Nevada, Missouri.

Mr. Zoglmann was arrested for 1.) Driving While Intoxicated.

He was booked into the Jasper County Jail and placed on a 24 hour hold.

Pleasant Hill man killed in Cass County motorcycle crash

On 8/13/16 around 6:20pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County responded to a one vehicle motorcycle fatality accident on Missouri 58 Highway at West Miller Street in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 636 driven by 23 year old Nicholas R. Fields of Pleasant Hill, Missouri traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned ejecting the driver.

Mr. Fields was pronounced dead at the scene and he was transported to the Jackson County Medical Examiner Office.

The bike was totaled and towed from the scene by Stever's Tow.

This is Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 42nd fatality accident of 2016.

Obituary - Carl F. Goddard

Funeral services for Carl F. Goddard will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler. Visitation is from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, Tuesday immediately prior to services at the chapel. 

Contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association.

Carl F. Goddard was born November 6, 1925 in Bates County, Missouri the son of Earl William Goddard and Nora Velona Umstattd Goddard. Carl is survived by his wife Norma J Goddard of Butler; son Larry Goddard and wife Linda of Liberty, Missouri; daughters Elaine Wells and husband Ted and Sherrie Weller and husband Rodger all of Brentwood, Tennessee. Also six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Carl was preceded in death by his parents two brothers and daughter Goria Jean Goddard.

Blue Springs man arrested in Bates County

On 8/13/16 around 1:19pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 29 year old Wandy Y. Guzman-Crus of Blue Springs, Missouri.

He was arrested for 1.) 3 Misdemeanor Lafayette County Missouri Sheriffs Office.

Mr. Guzman-Crus was booked into the Bates County Jail and is currently listed as bondable.

Karen Gayle Kenagy age 63 of Butler, Missouri departed this life Friday, August 12, 2016 at her home. 

Karen is survived by her companion Les Fenton of the home; her four sisters, Faye Bright Bailey of Nashville, Tennessee, Linda Carole French of Cerritos, California, Lana Bright of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Anna Denise Bright-Mullen of Lakeview, California; three granddaughters, Britney, Kylee, and Mariah; other relatives and many friends. 

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, August 14, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. Burial will be in the Clearfork Cemetery near Garden City, Missouri.

The family will receive friends Sunday, August 14, 2016 from 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Karen Kenagy Memorial Fund.

Obituary - Michael Pruitt

Michael Elza Pruitt, 72, of Nevada passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO.

A Memorial Service is planned for Wednesday, August 17th at the Calvary Baptist Church in Nevada at 10:30 A.M. with the family receiving friends from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at the church.

Eight injured, suspect arrested in Joplin shooting spree

Joplin Police Department have arrested a man who opened fire on three vehicles, injuring at least eight people Saturday morning.

The police responded to a call just after 5 a.m. about shots fired in the 1800 block of Connecticut Ave. Four people were injured by gunshots and one was struck by shrapnel.

Joplin officers located a possible suspect a few blocks away. As they tried to stop the vehicle, officers reported hearing shots being fired from the suspect vehicle. The person in the vehicle fired shots, striking people in a church at 32nd St. and Connecticut Ave. The officers chased the suspect, who officers report fired additional shots at people near 32nd St. and Texas Ave. Police arrested the suspect about 15 minutes after the incident was reported.


At 32nd St. and Connecticut Ave., the van the suspect fired upon was stopped at a traffic signal. As the suspect traveled through the intersection police said he fired multiple rounds. Three adult victims were injured either by direct gunfire or shrapnel. One of the victims is listed as critical but stable, one victim is listed as serious but stable and the third victim was treated released. 

At the 32nd St. and Texas Ave. location, the suspect fired multiple rounds at an oncoming, vehicle. The driver was struck by rounds and the passenger was struck by shrapnel. These two victims were transported to a local hospital. The driver is listed as stable and the passenger has been released.

Joplin Police identify the suspect as Tom S. Mourning II, 26, Joplin, Mo. Charges have not yet been submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office.

Investigators have not determined a motive for the shooting, Police recovered a rifle and a handgun. Investigators add that there does not appear to be any relationship between the suspect and the victims.
