Butler man killed in Cass County crash

On 8/20/16 around 9:40am the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with Cass County Sheriff's Office and Central Cass Fire Department responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Missouri 291 Highway at 215th Street in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1998 Oldsmobile driven by 24 year old Gerrick R. Wheeldon of Butler, Missouri traveled off the right side of the roadway before traveling back across to the left side of the roadway and overturning several times.  

Mr. Wheeldon was pronounced dead at 10:05am at Cass County Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville, Missouri. He was transported to the Jackson County Medical Examiners Office. 

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Johnson's Tow. 

This is Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 43rd Fatality accident of 2016.

Updated Obituary - Edward W. Humble Jr.

Ed Humble, Jr.

Edward Wilson Humble Jr, 68, of Drexel Missouri passed away on August 17, 2016 at Golden Years Nursing Home in Harrisonville, Missouri.  A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (660-679-0009).  Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Monday August 22, 2016 in the Mission Hall of the Drexel First Baptist Church, Drexel, Missouri.  Burial will follow in Sharon Cemetery.  Memorial contributions are suggested to The Drexel First Baptist Church or to R.I.O.  Messages of condolence may be left for the family at http://www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Ed was born on October 15, 1947 in Butler, Missouri to Edward Wilson Humble, Sr and Maxine Reed Humble.  He grew up in the Rich Hill, Missouri area, graduating from Rich Hill High School in 1966.  On October 15, 1965 he was united in marriage to Rebecca Sue Wilson in Rich Hill.  To this union three children were born, Lisa, Jennifer, and Jason.   Ed worked for Hallmark for 35 years, retiring in 2002.  He was a proud member of the Drexel First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, and of R.I.O for over 30 years, serving in various positions.  Ed loved spending time with his family, camping and fishing.  He had a talent for wood working, and often created gifts for family or works of art to be donated.  Many of Ed’s pieces can be seen at the church or the Missouri Children’s Home.  Ed also had a love of mission trips, meeting new people, and spreading the word of God all over the world.  He enjoyed his trips with the Missourians on Mission and the Church youth group, traveling to Rawlins, Wyoming, Rochester, Minnesota, and New Orleans, Louisiana.  In 1992 he made an Evangelistic Mission Trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, making memories his family will always cherish.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Ora and Effie Reed, William & Elizabeth Humble. He is survived by his wife, Becky, of the home in Drexel, his children, Lisa Gammon (Randy) of Drexel,  Jennifer Hummel (Dennis) of Gladstone MO and Jason Humble (Norma) of Harrisonville, MO.  Ed is also survived by his siblings Bill Humble (Darlene), Chuck Hunble (Becky) of Rich Hill, MO, Brother-in- law, Tom Wilson (Freda) of Moore, Oklahoma, Sisters-in- law, Madeline Woodfin (Bill) of Butler Mo and Kathi Plain (Lynn) of Fort Scott KS, Grandchildren,  Roe Gammon (Bethany), Lauren Gammon, Kaitlyn McGuffin, Stephanie Aguilar, Helen Aguilar, Jasmine Humble, Kaleb Hummel, Kole Hummel, Keaton Hummel and Great-Grandchildren Rylen Macken, Windsor Gammon, and many nieces and nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

Kansas City man arrested in Bates County

On 8/19/16 around 7:23pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 46 year old William E. Morgan of Kansas City, Missouri.

Mr. Morgan was arrested for 1.) Driving While Intoxicated.

He was booked into the Bates County Jail and placed on a 12 hour detox hold.

78 year old Hume man injured in ATV accident

On 8/19/16 around 4:00pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Bates County EMS responded to a ATV accident 8974 SW 11007 Road in the Hume area of Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2005 Polaris 500 Sportsman driven by 78 year old Lance L. Sears of Hume, Missouri was trying to free a lawn tractor that was stuck when the 4 wheeler struck a well casing in the yard ejecting Mr. Sears off the ATV.

Mr. Sears sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The ATV sustained minor damage in this accident.

Oklahoma man arrested in Bates County

On 8/19/16 around 11:38pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 33 year old Richard D. Miller of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Mr. Miller was arrested for 1.) Felony Driving While Intoxicated 2.) Felony Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

He was booked into the Bates County Jail and later bonded out.
