Butler man arrested for Class B Felony

On July 18, 2016 The Bates County Sheriff’s Office along with CNET Drug Task Force and Butler Police Department conducted a search warrant at 509 N Austin in Butler, MO.

As a result of this search warrant, on September 7, 2016 Stacey S. Thomas (DOB 9/17/63) was formally charged with Distributing, Delivering and Manufacturing of a Controlled Substance. 


This charge is a Class B Felony. His bond was set at $25000.00 cash or surety. 

On September 8, 2016 Thomas bonded out of the Bates County Jail on the above charges.

Funeral services for Terry McGuire will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2016 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Virginia Cemetery, Virginia, Missouri. Contributions to Leukemia Society.

Terry Gene McGuire, age 74 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, September 10, 2016 at University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born December 31, 1941 to Teddy Warren and DeEtta Maye Maloney McGuire in Kansas City, Kansas.

Terry, also known as “Haywire,” was a lifelong resident of Butler. He attended Belmont Grade School and graduated from Butler High School in 1959. On March 25, 1961 he was united in marriage to Patricia Fritts and to this union four children were born. Terry was the owner/operator of T.M. Hay Enterprises, custom hay operation. In his younger years, he worked on a traveling wheat harvest crew and as a mechanic at Kahn Chevrolet. He served as the trustee of Charlotte township and president of the Public Water Supply District #4. He was a founding member of the Virginia Mission Church where he attended every Sunday.

Terry was a hard worker, ornery, fun-loving, and had a heart of gold and loved his family--especially the little ones. He enjoyed visiting, eating family dinners and riding motorcycles. Terry volunteered in 4-H where he helped as small engine leader. He was a member of the Democratic committee and trustee and sexton of the Virginia Cemetery Association.

Terry is survived by his wife Pat McGuire of Butler, Missouri; three sons, Jim McGuire and wife Terry of Harrisonville, Missouri, Shannon McGuire and wife Lynell of Butler, Missouri and Greg McGuire and wife Rita of Schell City, Missouri; one daughter, Kathy Knapp and husband Mike of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; two brothers, David McGuire and wife B.J. of Ferris, Texas and Teddy Joe McGuire and wife Megan of Boonville, Missouri; two sisters, Diane Beatty of Butler, Missouri and Debbie Geiser of Marshall, Missouri; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Sam McGuire and Dennis McGuire.

Butler Optimist Puzzle Competition

The Butler Optimist will be hosting a Puzzle Competition on Saturday, September 24th starting at 6:30 pm. 

All proceeds will benefit the Toys for Tykes and other children's programs. 

The event is being held at the bingo building at the Butler fairgrounds.

Milo man charged with sexual abuse charges

On Friday 9/9/16 the Vernon County Sheriffs Office arrested 44 year old Donald R. Jester of Milo, Missouri.

Mr. Jester was arrested for 1.) Class A Felony - Forcible Sodomy 2.) Class B Felony - Attempted Forcible Rape 3.) Class D Felony - 1st Degree Sexual Abuse.

A investigation into Mr. Jester started in August of 2016 with formal charges being filed in Vernon County Court on Friday.

Donald R. Jester is currently being held in the Vernon County Jail and his bond has been set at $100,000 Cash/Surety Bond.

He has been ordered to have no contact with the victims in this case.

A Milo man was booked at the Vernon County Jail on three felony sexual abuse charges. 44-year-old Donald R. Jester, of Milo, was booked Friday of the felony charges, including a class A felony charge of Forcible Sodomy, a class B felony charge of Attempt-forcible rape, and a class D felony charge of first degree sexual abuse. The Focible sodomy charge dates back to June of 1995, while the other two charges tem from an incident in June of 1992. According to Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher, the charges were filed recently after the victim came forward about the sexual abuse, and the investigation into the allegations was started in August. Formal charges were field by Vernon County prosecuting attorney Brandi McInroy on Friday, with the warrant issued and executed by the Vernon County Sheriff's office the same day. Jester is currently being held at the county jail on a $100,000 bond, the warrant also mandates Jester have no contact with the victim. -

Boil Water Advisory in Effect for Bates County Rural Water District #6

All residents in Bates County Rural Water District #6 are being advised to boil all drinking water due to low water pressure. 

The Boil Water Advisory takes effect immediately and remains in effect until further notice. 

This Advisory is for ALL residents within the Bates County Rural Water District #6.

It's all about the details...

Bright and early Saturday morning the Butler square was alive with activity- not shopping, but cleaning. The organized effort was sponsored by Electric City Downtown to prepare the square for Huckster's Day this weekend.

The group of 25 or so workers swept, picked up trash and cleaned debris for most of the morning. Lunch was provided by Union Restaurant and Gordon Brown Insurance.
