Update: Victim Identified in Cass County Death Investigation

Cass Co. – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim found Sunday as Megan E. Wheeler, 32 of Harrisonville. 

The Metro Squad is asking for anyone that may have been in the area of Peculiar Drive north of Harrisonville between midnight Saturday and 11:00 a.m. Sunday to contact them if they saw anything.

Investigators are not releasing a cause of death at this time.

Obituary - Gerald Maxwell

 Gerald Maxwell
Gerald Wayne Maxwell, 77, of Clinton, Missouri died Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Clinton Healthcare and Rehabilitation. He was born June 3, 1939 in Urbana, Mo., the son of James Orville Maxwell and Helen Retha (Kinslow) Maxwell.

He married Rita Paulette Coffey on August 13, 1960 in Marshall, Mo. She survives of the home.

Gerald was employed as a truck driver for Clearfield Cheese in Clinton, Mo., Hull Trucking, Clinton, Mo., and then with Stinnett Trucking in Lowry City, Mo. He enjoyed motorcycle travel, camping, fishing, go-karts, and model airplanes.

In addition to his wife Paulette, he is survived by one son, Darrell Wayne Maxwell and wife Lesa, Marshall, Mo.; one daughter, Tina Marie Wolfe and husband David, Colfax, Iowa; six grandchildren, Kevin Wayne Sperry and wife Elizabeth, Dustin Lee Veach and wife Courtney, Joshua Wayne Maxwell, Britny Marie Maxwell, Levi Garrett Maxwell, and Jason Michael Maxwell; 7 great-grandchildren, Jesslyn Gibbs, Hunter Veach, Weston Veach, Bryson Veach, Emmitt Veach, Rayne Crist, and Raiden Crist; two brothers, Charles Wilbur Maxwell and Leland Earl Maxwell, both of Clinton, Mo.; one sister, Janice Marie Schumacher and husband Mike, South Dakota; one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harold Dee Maxwell; and one grandson, Jordy Allan Maxwell.Graveside services and interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall, Mo. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton, Mo. The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society, and these donations may be left in care of the funeral home

Obituary - Richard "Rick" Alan Post

Richard "Rick" Alan Post, age 61 Prescott, Kansas passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 at his home. He was born on April 17, 1955 at Fort Scott, Kansas the son of Alvin and Suda Edwards Post. He attended Prescott Schools and graduated from Jayhawk Linn High School. He worked at several occupations the most recent in waste management with Linn County, Kansas. 

He was a member of the NRA, he was involved in target shooting and reloading his own ammunition. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, leatherworking, watching western movies and reading, especially his favorite author James Lee Burke. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Raymond and Duane Post and a sister Florence Post. He is survived by two sons, Nick Burney and wife Tara, and Chad Burney, a daughter, Gayla Williams and husband Buzz, three sisters: Elaine Shroyer, Carol Oakes, and Kathy Williams, and three grandchildren: Grace, Nicholas and Madison.

Graveside service will be held 11 am, Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the Prescott Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Monday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel.

Obituary - Robert "Bob" Samuel Kimzey

Robert "Bob" Samuel Kimzey
Robert "Bob" Samuel Kimzey, age 70, passed from this life on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the family farm surrounded by his family. He was born on April 15th, 1946 in rural Eldorado Springs, Mo. He was the son of Rolla E. Kimzey and Pearl O. (Stone) Kimzey. On April 30th, 1965 he was united in marriage to Judy A. (Thomas) Kimzey, and she survives of the home.

Bob grew up in the Roscoe and Osceola area before moving to Nevada at a young age. In his teenage years, he worked for local farmers and later was employed by Young Iron and Metal in Nevada before moving to Kansas City to pursue a career in constuction. After suffering health issues and the death of his father-in-law, he and his family returned to Nevada to reside on the family farm.

Bob enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren whether it was helping them in 4-H projects, working on cars, or raising horses. He was an especially kind, forgiving, and generous man, always quick to help others in need. He was a great fabricator that had the skills to make whatever he needed to fix anything. If he didn't have it, Bob could make it. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with family. In his later years, he learned the art of flint knapping (making arrowheads) which he became very good at and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and talent with others at various events.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Judy, include three children, Randy Kimzey and wife Kristie of Bronaugh, Mo; Missy (Kimzey) Wehmeyer and husband Devin of Nevada; Eric Bachtal and wife Patricia of Snoqualmie, Wa; and daughter-in-law Dianne (Ashley) Kimzey of Oak Grove, Mo; seven grandchildren Amanda Kimzey of Ozark, Mo; Korey Kimzey of Bronaugh, Mo; Zachary and Dalton Kimzey both of Oak Grove, Mo; Tyler Kimzey and Kallie Hardman of Nevada, Mo; Paula Bachtal of Snoqualmie, Wa; and two step grand-children George Rocco and Taylor Wehmeyer of Nevada, Mo; and a sister Shirley Heathman and Tom of Nevada, Mo; plus numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bud Kimzey, and a son Rob Kimzey, and also father and mother in-law Coolie and Polly Thomas and brother in-law Gene Thomas.

Memorial services will be held at10:00 a.m., Friday, September 23, 2016 in the Ferry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roger Beach officiating. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. A private family graveside service will follow Friday services in Balltown Cemetery, Horton, MO. Memorials may be made to the Vernon County Cancer Relief or Crossroads 4-H in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

DeWayne L. Gifford
DeWayne L. Gifford, 82 of Butler, Missouri passed away September 18, 2016 at his home in Butler. Graveside funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Westville Cemetery in Westville, Oklahoma where Mr. Gifford was born. There is no visitation.

DeWayne Leon Gifford was born June 29, 1934 in Westville, Oklahoma, son of Hershel and Thelma (Stevens) Gifford Swinney.

DeWayne attended Westville High School, and was united in marriage October 1, 1955 to Mary L. Fink. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 – 1960. He was a lifetime member of Carpenters Local #315 and was a Master Mason from May 27, 1969 to present.

DeWayne was preceded in death by his father, Hershel Gifford; his step-mother Anna Gifford; his mother Thelma Swinney; sister Beulah Woodward; and brothers Ronald Gifford, Hollis Gifford and Robert Gifford. He is survived by his wife Mary L. Gifford of Butler; son Bryon Gifford; daughter Brenda Herman and son-in-law Jerry Herman; sister Lola Birticel; grandchildren Cody Gifford, Casey Gifford, Kendra Herman, and Joel Herman; and great-grandchildren Carson, Jonah, Jackson, and Cooper.
