Bates County Sheriffs Office Beards For Kids

The Bates County Sheriff’s Office will participate in No Shave November with a small twist: “We’re doing it for the Kids!!!”

Here is the skinny on the Beards for Kids Program. As of today, each Deputy that chooses to participate, will donate the first $20 to the program. After that each Deputy will be out trying to get “pledges” from family, friends and the community.

Here is the opportunity for the community to “Sponsor a Deputy’s Beard”. The Pledges and Donations will be collected through the month of November. If the Deputies collectively reach our goal of raising a $1000 they will be allowed to continue sporting their beards until January 1st. As an additional encouragement the Deputies are competing for two grand prizes sponsored by Sheriff Chad Anderson. The first prize for the Deputy that raises the most money is a dinner for two (up to $50) at a restaurant of their choice. The second prize is for the Deputy with the coolest beard and is a $25 gift card.

100% of the money raised will be donated to organizations that provided needed items for kids at Christmas. A portion of this project’s funds will be presented to Adrian Police Chief Chris Dillon who has for the past several years raised money to purchase 10 bicycles for children at Christmas time in the Adrian community.

“The Sheriff’s Office has a long standing policy that promotes a professional image that prohibits growing facial hair, except for mustaches.” Says Sheriff Anderson. “But we are making an exception because, darn it, it’s for the kids”

The Deputy’s goal is to do their part in our community to invest in our youth and make a positive impact on them during the holiday seasons. Sheriff Anderson says, “I encourage you to find a Deputy, ask him how his beard is doing, support him with a pledge and help them make a difference in our community this holiday season.”

You can follow our progress on our Facebook page. Each Monday we will post each Deputy’s progress with raising money and growing his beard.
