Man arrested in Rich Hill this morning

Around 6:15am this morning the Bates County Sheriff's Office along with Rich Hill Police Department responded to Pumpin Pete's Gas Station in Rich Hill on a report of a female being held by a male against her will.

When police arrived on scene the female victim who had escaped the male and called the police advised that a male had been holding her against her will. Officers made contact with the unknown male in the parking lot.

The vehicle he was in came back stolen and the male subject was taken into police custody.

When officers searched the stolen vehicle they discovered several firearms and drugs. The vehicle is still be processed at this time and a full investigation is pending.

House fire in Rich Hill

The Rich Hill Fire Department with mutual aid from the Butler Fire Department, along with the Rich Hill Police Department and Bates County Sheriffs Office are on scene of a house fire at 510 East Oak Street in Rich Hill.

The house has smoke coming out of the roof at this time and everyone is said to be out of the home.

Updated Obituary - James Paul Theis

 James Paul Theis
James Paul Theis passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Clinton Rehabilitation Center at the age of 86.
Jim was born on August 6, 1930 in Riceville, Iowa, the son of Harry and Hazel Marr Theis. He graduated from St. Patricks High School in Waukon, Iowa in 1948. After high school graduation he worked with his father at Theis Clothing Store in Waukon for two years. On August 20, 1950 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country until being honorably discharged in June, 1954.

After his discharge Jim enrolled at Drake University where he completed his Pharmacy degree in 1959. He met the love of his life, Becky Onken, in the fall of 1957, and they were wed on May 31, 1958. From this marriage seven children were born. They include: Lori (Larry) Bartruff of Beaver Dam, WI; Teri (Corey) Bowman of Warrensburg, MO; Todd of Las Vegas, NV; Tami (Ken) Kuta of Panora, IA; Jani (Alan) Carlon of DeForest, WI; Jodi (Terry) Olson of Duluth, MN; Viki (Rick) Schmidt of Wellsville, KS. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren; his sister Linda (Mike) Manning of Lansing, IA; two brothers; John (Jan) of Macomb, IL and Tom (Ginny) of Hiawatha, IA; a brother-in-law Gene (Barb) Onken of Santa Fe, NM, and sister-in-law Darlene Piper of Peru, IN.

Preceding him in death were his parents; Harry and Hazel, brother; Dale, and his in-laws; Walter and Jessie Onken.

Jim was an active member of Holy Rosary church in Clinton where he served as a eucharistic minister and the Knights of Columbus.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00pm on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with a Memorial Mass of Christian burial following at 2:00pm. Inurnment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon, IA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Knights of Columbus in care of Holy Rosary, or the Clinton Rehabilitation Center and may be left in care of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, MO.

Union Restaurant is inviting all EMT FIRE FIGHTERS and POLICE OFFICERS to Adrian Optimist building at 7:30 tonight.

Funeral services for Zella Doane will be 10 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. 

Visitation will be Friday evening from 5 -7 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri.

Zella Rose Doane, age 85 of Kansas City, Missouri died Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at North Kansas City Hospital in Kansas City. She was born August 27, 1931 to Thomas Marion and Florence Tina Chaney Chandler in Butler, Missouri.

Zella is survived by her son, Bob Doane and wife Sharon of Eagan, Minnesota; one daughter, Linda Rolf and husband Scott of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Jean Chandler and Mary Jo Chandler both of Raytown, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Melissa Stong and husband Dusty, Becky Randalls and husband Dave, Laura Herring, Rick Doane, Stephanie Doane, Gayle Rolf, Casey Rolf and Sally Rolf; and four great-grandchildren, Kallie, Carissa, Dylan and Whitley. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles in 1997; one daughter, Cara in 2004; 3 brothers, Lester, Russell and Kenneth; and two sisters, Marian Barkley and Mary Wade Hyatt.

Gray's Cafe reopening next week

Much to the dismay of many, Gray's Cafe on the Butler strip closed recently- leaving a burning question: When and where will they reopen?

Gray's Cafe has relocated to 200 S. Old 71 Highway in Adrian and will be open for business Monday, December 5th starting at 6 am.

The owners would like to thank everyone for their patience and look forward to serving you from their new location. Just hop off the highway and turn south at the four way stop to enjoy the same delicious food and fun atmosphere as before!
