| Sara Elizabeth Houk |
Sara Elizabeth Houk, 74, of Tightwad, Missouri went home to be with the Lord early Friday morning, December 2, 2016, following a long struggle with cancer, surrounded by her family. She was born October 21, 1942 in Henry County, Mo., the daughter of David D. Hill and Cora Elizabeth (Lionberger) Hill.
Sara married Willard Glen Houk on July 15, 1960 in Tightwad, Mo. He preceded her in death on November 13, 2002.
She was a lifelong caregiver, working for Golden Valley Memorial Hospital as a Certified Nurses Aid, in the surgical unit, and also as a unit secretary, retiring in 2008 after 20 plus years of service. She loved life and she loved her family. She was involved in most everything they did in one way or another. She was a diehard Royals fan and if they were on that day you knew she'd be in front of the T.V. cheering them on. Her greatest love was taking care of others. If you needed her for anything she was always there. Kind, accepting, warm hearted, keeper of the peace are just a few words to describe Sara or Nanny as she was known to people closest to her. She was a fighter. During her battle with cancer she would have thrown in the towel long ago if it wasn't for the inspiration instilled in her heart by her two great-granddaughters. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by one son, Mike Houk and wife Darlene, Clinton, Mo.; one daughter, Karen Elmer and husband Brad, Clinton, Mo.; four grandchildren, Sean Houk and wife TeAnna, Clinton, Mo., Megan Bragg and husband Michael, Clinton, Mo., and Corey Houk, Clinton, Mo., Lynora Neuhaus, Nacogdoches, Texas; three step-grandchildren, Jennifer Sutton, Clinton, Mo., Jeremy Sutton, Oakdale, Minnesota, and Gayla Kenney and husband Stephen, Bland, Mo., great-grandchildren, Kenadi and Rowan Houk, Clinton, Mo., Wyatt and Maddy, Nacogdoches, Tx.; step-great-grandchildren, Larry Joe and Stephanie Kenney, Bland, Mo.; one brother, Bob Hill, Clinton, Mo.; five sisters-in-law, Violet Hill, Warsaw, Mo., Pearl Hill, Belton, Mo., Virginia Hill, Liberty, Mo., Faye Houk, Warsaw, Mo., Georgia Hazel, Clinton, Mo.,numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Bill Hill, Wade Hill, Joe Hill, and Larry Hill; and one sister, Corene Jones.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. Burial will be in Parks Chapel Cemetery, Tightwad, Mo. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 p.m. just prior to the funeral service. Friends may call Monday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
