Update: Cause of Butler house fire accidental in nature

On Monday, December 5th at approximately 8:50 P.M., the Butler Fire Department along with automatic mutual aid from the Adrian Fire Department were dispatched to 109 S. Austin St, Butler, for a report of a structure fire.

On arrival a large amount of fire was found from the southwest corner of a single story wood frame residential structure. Occupants were out of the residence.


Crews battled the fire and it was declared under control at approximately 9:21 P.M., with the last units leaving the scene at 10:55 P.M.

The structure sustained significant fire damage, as well as smoke and heat damage and it's unknown at this time the value of the damage.

The fire has been determined to have been accidental in nature and no one was injured in this fire.

Vehicle fire on I-49

The Adrian Fire Department along with the Butler Fire Department are in route to a vehicle fire in the Southbound lanes of I-49 around Mile Marker 140.4 which is just South of Adrian(Mile Marker 141).

The fire is said to be contained at this time in the cab of a unknown kind of fuel truck.

Obituary - Dalton Zachary McGuire

Dalton Zachary McGuire
Dalton Zachary McGuire, 22, died Saturday, December 3, 2016 in Butler, MO.  Dalton was born July 12, 1994 in Kansas City, MO the son of Matthew Ryan & Elizabeth “Susie” (Billue) McGuire.
Dalton graduated from Butler High School in Butler, MO in 2012.  He took several classes at Ozark Technical College in Springfield, MO.
Dalton was employed at Central States Beverage Company in Kansas City, MO.
Dalton was born to entertain and lived to make people smile and laugh.  He loved to be with his friends.  He loved doing card tricks, making music and playing golf.  Dalton never knew a stranger, he talked to everyone.  He treated everyone the same- from infants to the kids who flocked him all the way to the elderly.  People just lit up whenever he was around.  Dalton never missed a chance to skateboard with friends or alone.  It was the only thing he did for himself.
Dalton is survived by his mother Elizabeth “Susie” (Billue) McGuire, father Matthew R. McGuire, brother Zeth McGuire(Courtney Leonard), maternal grandmother Judith Powell, maternal Donald Billue, paternal grandmother Alice McGuire, maternal aunt Tammy Atterbury, paternal uncle Mark (Nancy) McGuire, cousins Christopher (Becky) Kendrick, Corey (Erika) Atterbury, Caitlyn (Cory Jolliffe) Atterbury, Bill (Becky) Pearman, Lauren (Garrett) Walsh, and Ryan McGuire. He was preceded in death by his sister Rachel Billue, and paternal grandfather Harold “Duke” McGuire.
Memorial services are 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury, MO.

House fire in Butler

The Butler Fire Department along mutual aide of the Adrian Fire Department and the Butler Police are on scene of a house fire at 109 South Austin Street in Butler at this time.

The residence is fully engulfed in smoke and everyone is said to be out of the house at this time.

Obituary - Helen Louise (Stouffer) Hughes

Helen Louise (Stouffer) Hughes
Helen Louise (Stouffer) Hughes, 93 years, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital on the Plaza, Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will be at Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri. 

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or the Leukemia Society and may be left in care of the funeral home. Fond memories and condolences can be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com.

Helen was born on December 7, 1922 in Butler, Missouri to Clifford Buford Stouffer and Ola Mae Cumpton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clinton where she sang in the Spirit Lifters choir. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Mid-Day Optimist Club. Helen enjoyed painting and ceramics.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Forrest Hughes, one brother and one sister.

Among survivors are her son; Robert “Bob” Hughes (Sheryl Rayburn) of Windsor, Missouri, two grandchildren; Cassie Hughes of Clinton, Missouri and Michele Braswell and family of Absarokee, Montana, a nephew; Mike Stouffer (Chris) and a niece; Sherry Stouffer both of Overland Park, Kansas.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.



Turning cold with a chance of light snow

Patricia "Pat" Stapleton 78 of Creighton, Missouri departed this life on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Stapleton of the home; three daughters, Debbie Journey, Montrose, Missouri, Cheryl Santanen and husband Cliff, Clinton, Missouri, Susie Hastings and husband Eric, Adrian, Missouri; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Green and wife DeeDee and a sister, Norma McDowell all of Independence, Missouri.

Cremation. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Creighton Baptist Church, Creighton, Missouri.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Creighton Baptist Church, Creighton, Missouri.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Creighton Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
