New sex offender registered in Butler

Disturbance on B Highway near Osceola


On Dec. 5, St. Clair County deputies responded to B Highway near NE 251 Road, Osceola, in reference to a disturbance. Deputies made contact with a male subject who admitted to being under the influence of a controlled substance. It was learned the subject attempted to board a Osceola Public School bus with children on it. 

He believed individuals were chasing him and was looking for safety. Emergency medical services were called to the scene and later transported the man to an area hospital. 

No criminal charges are being sought at this time in connection with the incident.



Building fire at Schulze Auction and Sales in Nevada

On Monday December 5th around 4:06pm the Nevada Fire Department responded to a building fire at Schulze Auction & Sales located at 1427 W. Austin St. in Nevada.

The Nevada Fire Department says upon their arrival to the scene they found the single story building with smoke and fire coming through the office area of the building. 

Fire Crews conducted an interior attack on the flames, extinguished the fire, and completed an overhaul of the building in approximately one hour. 

The Nevada Fire Department says the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, and damage was estimated to be $20,000 for the building. No one was injured in this fire.








 

Nevada Police Conduct Sexual Assault Investigation

Nevada Police have concluded an investigation in regards to a Sexual Assault that was reported on Tuesday, September 20, 2016

Nevada Police investigators conducted several interviews, which included interviews involving a juvenile victim. During the investigation information was developed, indicating that the use of illegal drugs, Violation of Protection order and a Sexual Assault occurred.

Electronic devices have been seized and are being processed by the Cyber Crimes Division.

Officers contacted the Vernon County Prosecuting Attorney, and applied for a search warrant to the Vernon County Associate Court for the electronics.

Officers took the suspect into custody December 6 2016, at a local business within the City of Nevada.

The suspect was identified and charged through the Vernon County Circuit Courts as follows:

Rilynn N Schmidt, age 22 of Nevada Mo.
  • Statutory Rape 2nd C Felony
  • Keeping or Maintaining Public Nuisance C Felony
  • Violation of Child Protection Order A Misd

Updated obituary - Kay Frances Cole

Kay Frances Cole, 72, Adrian, Missouri, died Sunday, December 4, 2016 at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, with visitation from 5:00-6:00. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice House or Immanuel Baptist Church, Butler, Missouri.

Kay was born June 30, 1944 in rural Bates County, Missouri, the daughter of Morland and Bonnie (Sterns) Christopher. She was a Christian and a member of the United Methodist Church in Passaic, Missouri. On January 22, 1965, she married Hershel Cole and raised three children, Jay Warren, Dusty Warren, and Dondria (Cole) McGuire. She was employed as a hair dresser early on in life and also worked as an activity director at Adrian Manor. Her most rewarding job was that of a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Kay’s favorite hobby was that of traveling. She especially enjoyed taking her family and friends on cruises to the Caribbean to her favorite stop at Cozumel and shopping for the perfect ring. She also enjoyed shopping of any kind; rather it be on QVC, searching for that magic face cream, or trips to the city to find new home décor. She took pride in herself and in her home, but most of all, family was her favorite past time. She loved her husband, kids, and grandchildren unconditionally and spent her days showering them with love.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Darla Ficklin. She is survived by her husband, Hershel Cole of Adrian. She is also survived by her children, Jay Warren (Sharon), Dusty Warren (Annette), Dondria McGuire (Doug), all of Butler Missouri; 8 grandchildren, Aaron Warren (Courtney), Dylan Warren, Carlie Warren, D.J. Warren, Hailey Burgess, Ben Burgess, Breanne (Breezy) McLay (James), and Peyton McGuire; 5 great-grandchildren, Erin Warren, Madison and Cole Priest, Kyson Burgess, and Landon McLay; one brother, Keith Christopher (Lisa), and sister, Misty Christopher.
