Obituary - Steven Wayne Pryor

Steven Wayne Pryor, 58, Nevada, MO passed from this life on Tuesday, December 14, 2016 at his home in Nevada. Steven was born June 10, 1958 in Nevada, MO to James Edward and Beverly Fern (Crump) Pryor.

Steven was raised in Nevada and attended school there, graduating from Nevada High School. Following high school he began working as a painter for CBI. During his employment with them he traveled all over the United States and abroad working on various projects. Steve enjoyed NASCAR, playing pool, listening to music, and just being goofy. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and brother. Steve loved his dog Chumley, his family, and was loved by his family, “To the moon and back.”

Survivors include four daughters, Stephanie Pryor, Springfield, Jamie Pryor, Springfield, Lisa Pryor, Springfield, Ashley Pryor, Arma, KS; grandchildren, Jaden, Trystan, Kaelyn, Mason, Jeanette, Jackie, Bragston, Madison, Macy, Maddex, Chance, Jace, Justyn, Felyx, October, Ravyn, William, Allanah, Emma; two step-children, Amber Braun (Joseph), Burgess, MO, Josh Smith (Brittney), Osage City, KS; one sister, Susie Pritchett (Randy), Nevada; four brothers, Jimmie Pryor (Becky), Nevada, Tracy Pryor, Nevada, Doug Pryor, Columbia, MO, Greg Pryor (Cathy), Nevada; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until service time on Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Vernon County Cancer Relief in c/o Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.



BREAKING: Large apartment fire in Harrisonville

On 12/15/2016, at approximately 4 p.m. Harrisonville Police Department along with fire Personnel responded to Twin Oaks Apartments where an active fire was present. At this time at least five buildings are involved. 

Crews remained on scene actively working the fire. Citizens in the area or in the buildings have been relocated to three locations Harrisonville Middle School, Harrisonville Church of the Nazarene, and Harrisonville Community Church. 

We ask that you avoid the area if at all possible and please say a prayer for the families affected by this fire.

BREAKING: Police chase ends with crash in Drexel

The scene as a police chase ends
in Drexel at 359th and State
Line Road
A short time ago Bates County Sheriff Chad Anderson attempted to make a traffic stop on a silver BMW convertible just outside of Drexel, Mo. The vehicle failed to yeild, resulting in a brief chase that ended when the driver lost control as the car went over the railroad tracks.

The vehicle left the roadway striking a utility pole and abandoned house, ejecting the driver.

The subject was transported by ambulance to a Kansas City, Missouri hospital for treatment.

More information and the identity of the driver expected to be released soon.

Shooting at Sherwood school confirmed to be rumor only

A message sent to parents of students at Sherwood R-8 this morning:

"The safety of students and staff is a top priority at Sherwood. Because of this, we take even the slightest comments regarding school safety seriously, and act promptly. This morning, a rumor about a possible school shooting at Sherwood was shared with district administration. The rumor was found to be false,  and based on a student comment taken out of context. Students were not in any danger at any time. If you have any questions, please contact the central office at 660-499-2239. Thank you."

Notice of Miami School Board election

The Miami R-I School District encourages qualified persons interested in running for a position on the School Board to file to be a candidate in the April 4, 2017 election.

Interested persons may file at the superintendent's office located at 7638 NW State Route J, Amoret, MO 64722. For more information contact Steve Beckett or Marilyn Lindsay at 660-267-3480.

Filing will begin on December 13, 2016, at 8:00 a.m. and will continue during the district's regular business hours, which are Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Monday December 19th 2016. Except for the first and last day of filing, filing will not occur on days that the school district's central offices are closed due to inclement weather. Filing will also not occur on the following holidays and breaks when the school district's central offices are closed: Closing at 12:30p.m.on Wednesday, December 21st, 2016 and closed all day Thursday, December 22, 2016 thru Tuesday, January 3, 2017 Filing will end on January 17, 2017, at 5:00 p.m.

Placement on the ballot to be determined by order of filing.
There are Three (3) positions available with three-year terms.
