Updated Obituary - Lester L. Shaw

Lester L. Shaw
Lester L. Shaw, age 98, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Fort Scott Manor. He was born on February 11, 1918 at Amoret, Missouri the son of Fred and Cora Mears Shaw. He was employed as an operating engineer working most of his career with DiCarlo Masonry. He was married to Marlene Ross on December 24, 1938. 

She preceded him in death on October 12, 1984. He later married Margaret Rees Lamb on June 25, 1988. Les was also preceded in death by a daughter Diane Elaine and nine siblings: Charles, Chester and Claude Shaw, Effie Wilkerson, Mildred Freed, Leona Meintz, Gertrude McGuire, Gladys Shaw and Jewell Mitts. Les was a member of the Mound City Christian Church and the Operating Engineers Local #101. 

He was an avid gardner, and liked to hunt and fish. He is survived by a son Gerald "Jerry" Shaw and wife Janet, two daughters, Sharon Hedges and husband Steve and Karon Miller and husband Richard, stepson Bill Lamb, nine grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and a great great grandson to join the rest of the family shortly.

Funeral service will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, December 20, 2106 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton. Burial in the Pleasanton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Monday at the Schneider Pleasanton Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Residencies Activity Fund. Butler man arrested in Bates County

On 12/17/16 around 12:33am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 22 year old Spencer D. Gould of Butler, Missouri.

Mr. Gould was arrested for 1.) Driving While Intoxicated - Prior Offender.

He was booked into the Bates County Jail and placed on a 12 hour detox hold.

Obituary - Keith K. Davis

Keith K. Davis
Keith K. Davis, 88, Nevada, MO departed this life on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO. Keith was born August 21, 1928 in Stonington, CO to John William and Etta Grace (Redman) Davis.

Keith lived in Colorado while growing up. When Keith was a young man he served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed there for two years. Upon his return from Korea he attended Adams State University in Alamosa, CO where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Following college Keith spent two years teaching English abroad, one year in Manchester, England and one year in Ankara, Turkey. At that time Keith returned to the states and was recruited to teach school at Los Alamos, New Mexico for 20 years. He retired from early from teaching at the age of 50 and moved to Missouri to reside on the farm he had purchased. Keith raised Limousine cattle in Vernon County for the next 30 years. He enjoyed taking care of his land and his cattle.

During his life Keith traveled to Jerusalem to visit the Wailing Wall, climbed the Pyramids in Egypt, and traveled Europe extensively. Keith was a history buff, loved politics, and was a staunch Republican. He was a voracious reader, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, and was a loyal blood donor. Keith was known by his family as “Uncle Tuff”.

Survivors include one sister, Ernestine Adson, Pueblo, CO; one brother, Glen Davis and his wife Faye, Bloomfield, NM; one special brother-in-law, Hugh Marion, Dumas, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Genevieve Williams, and sister, Ruth Marion; four brothers, Velmer Davis, Randall Davis, Wayne Davis, and Vesper Davis.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Love Cemetery in Cedar County, MO. The family will receive friends from 5-6:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested in his memory to the American Red Cross in c/o Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Obituary - Mary Lucille "Alice" Bush

Mary Lucille "Alice" Bush
Mary Lucille "Alice" Bush was born September 1, 1933, daughter of Hezekiah Dudley and Lena Belle (Canfield) Hix in Climax Springs, Camden County, Missouri. 

She grew up loving the Ozark Mountains of Macks Creek, MO, exploring the natural beauty there. She absorbed the Native American heritage of her mother there, as well, and learned a deep love, respect, and appreciation of the natural world as well as the spiritual one. Her beliefs and roots were Cherokee and Osage as well as Baptist.

She found and married the love of her lifetime, Wallace Lee "Bud" Bush, in 1952. They married in Yellville, Marion County, Arkansas on the 20th of July, 1952. There were 2 stepsons she took into her heart from the beginning, Terry and Jim Bush, and later they had a daughter of their own, Mary Ann, in 1966. She and Bud spent nearly 40 years together, before he passed away, leaving a hole she never refilled. On December 15, 2016, she rejoined him.

She had a huge heart, and took in any who needed love and caring. She would be a mother to anyone who needed her. She would fight for anyone who needed her to fight for them. She would welcome with open arms any who needed shelter. She spent her entire life caring and giving and loving.

She enjoyed the bounties of nature, loved gardening, and often raised huge gardens. She also loved hunting for everything from wild berries to morel mushrooms from nature's gardens. She enjoyed reading, and puzzles of any kind, when she couldn't be outside. She had a love for her local sports teams that lasted most of her adult life, and loved the Royals and Chiefs sports teams, cheering them on through every game.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Brother Hezekiah Dudley, Jr, and a step-son, Terry. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann (Bush) Bittle and husband Gary and two grandsons, Matthew and Joshua Bittle, sister Betty (Hix) Stoner, stepson Jim Bush, step-grandchildren Stephanie, Terry Junior, and Matthew, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and more, and many who may not have shared blood, but shared in her life, touched by her heart and soul in many ways.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Family will receive friends from 12 noon until service time.

Deepwater woman seriously injured in Henry County accident

On 12/16/16 around 11:25am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County along with Henry County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Route Z just East of Missouri 13 Highway in rural Henry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 driven by 29 year old Samantha G. Taylor of Deepwater, Missouri lost control of her vehicle and ran off the right side of the roadway before returning to the road and running off the left side of the roadway causing the vehicle to strike mailbox before overturning and sliding off the roadway coming to rest on its wheels.

Samantha G. Taylor sustained serious injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Golden Valley Tow of Clinton, Missouri.

Pedestrian struck by vehicle just outside of Nevada

On 12/16/16 around 3:00pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Vernon County Sheriffs Deputies responded to a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Route K just East of the Nevada City Limits.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred as 42 year old Donald R. Winkler of Jonesburg, Missouri was struck by a unknown make and model, dark colored pickup truck as he walked along the shoulder of the road.

Mr. Winkler sustained moderate injuries and he was transported by ambulance to Nevada Regional Medical Center for treatment.

These ladies spent a lot of time getting the gifts and working so students could shop for family and friends. 

A great lesson for students to promote sharing and thinking of others.

The Butler Fire Department is sad to announce the passing of Firefighter Rodger Cecil who passed away today due to a medical issue. Rodger had served with the Butler Fire Department since April 2008. 

He had also served with the Belton Fire Department and as Chief of the Foster Volunteer Fire Department. 

Please keep wife Brenda, also an active firefighter with our department, and family members in your thoughts and prayers. He will be missed. Services pending at this time.
