Nebraska man arrested in Bates County

On 12/31/16 around 9:11pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 54 year old Thomas M. Johnsen of Omaha, Nebraska.

Mr. Johnsen was arrested for 1.) Felony Possession of a controlled substance. 

He was booked into the Bates County Jail and later bonded out.

Obituary - Billy Earl Burns

Billy Earl Burns
Billy Earl Burns, 63, of Pleasant Hill, was born, December 20, 1953, in Sikeston, Missouri, the son of Fred L. and Opal (Freeman) Burns. He departed this life, December 25, 2016, at the Pleasant Hill Health & Rehabilitation with his brother Johnny at his side.

Billy had been employed by Helt's Turf Farms his entire life until failing health forced him into early retirement in 2014. 

In his free time he loved fishing, singing, playing guitar; he especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Donald Burns, Tommy Burns, and David Burns.

He is survived by his long time friend, Vianna Baker, of Pleasant Hill; his children, Billy Jr. (and Sonya), Tisha Burns, Roxanne Burns, and Tabitha Burns; one brother, Johnny (and Donna) Burns of Peculiar; three sisters, Edna (and Wayne) Eaton of Morehouse, Missouri, Phyllis Burns and Millie (and Mike) Cullum, both of Parma, Missouri; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 29, 2016, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Chaplain Barry Pennington officiated. Graveside services and interment were held Friday, December 30, 2016, at the Strasburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the family and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Barbara Joyce Taylor 65 of Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Lee's Summit Medical Center, Lee's Summit, Missouri surrounded by love and family.

Final arrangements entrusted to Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
Service time and a complete obituary will be posted when that information becomes available.

Multiple County Police Chase In Kansas

Yesterday afternoon several police agencies were involved in a high-speed chase.
The chase that started near Fort Scott, Kansas came across Allen County on U.S. Highway 54 and traveled thru parts of Iola including the square and Highland Cemetery.
The chase eventually ended just south of Iola when two deputies pinned the suspect vehicle against a guardrail after the individual rammed a deputies truck.
The male driver and female passenger, both from Fort Scott, were arrested and being held without bond in the Allen County Jail.
Mid America Live News will update when charges are filed and names are released to us from the Allen County Sheriffs Office.

Field fire in Virginia area of Bates County

The Amsterdam Fire Department along with mutual aide from the Butler Fire Department and Amoret Fire Department are on scene of a field fire on C Highway and County Road 4002 which is located North of Virginia.

The wind is playing a huge factor in fighting this fire and crews will remain on scene for unknown amount of time.

Permitless carry starts next week in Missouri

Regardless of your views on the subject, starting January 1st, 2017 you don't need a permit to carry a firearm in Missouri. And if you choose to carry, permit or not, this would be a good time to review how this new ruling will affect you:
