Bates County Sheriffs Office personal property and public auction

By order of the courts, in reference to Bates County Circuit Course Case # 16BS-AC00268, the Bates County Sheriff will sell the following personal property at public auction on February 24 at 10:00 a.m. at 901 N. Orange in Butler, MO. The items may be viewed one hour prior to the sale. 

The personal property will be sold as is without any warranties to the highest bidder. All sales are final. The highest bidder must pay for the item(s) they purchase at the auction in cash within one hour after the auction closes. Checks and credit cards will not be accepted.

We have located the major leak and it is in a remote area. We are working diligently getting the repair crew and equipment here to repair the break.

Obituary - Marvin C. Wilke

Marvin C. Wilke, 81, of Spingdale, Arkansas, formerly of Drexel, Missouri passed away January 31, 2017 at the Earlene Howard Circle of Life Hospice Home in Springdale, Arkansas. Graveside services will be held 12:30 pm Friday, February 3, 2017 at Rockville Cemetery, Louisburg, Kansas. 

Visitation will be held prior to services from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm Friday at Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (660-679-0009). Contributions are suggested in lieu of flowers to the Earlene Howard Circle of Life Hospice Home. Messages of Condolence may be left for the family at http://www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Marvin was born October 2, 1935 in rural Miami County Kansas to Herman F. and Margaret Toncray Wilke. He was a direct descendent of one of Miami County’s earliest settlers. Although, he enjoyed retirement from his farm there, his heart never truly left it.

Marvin is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Nickie Applegate Wilke, his children, Alisa Kettler, Donna Belt, Charise (Jim) Meeks, and Jeff (Vicky) Wilke, five grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Osceola man arrested in St.Clair County

On Jan. 29, Jackie Clark, 60, Osceola, was arrested in St. Clair County on warrants from St. Clair and Henry counties for failing to appear in court.

In St. Clair County, Clark is charged with two counts of failure to register motor vehicle, two counts of no insurance, three counts driving while revoked/suspended- second or subsequent offense, two counts of possessing marijuana, and an infraction of displaying plates of another. Total bond on the St. Clair County charges is $12,000 cash only.

In Henry County Clark is charged with failing to appear in court on felony charge of driving while revoked. Bond on that charge is set at $2,500 cash only.

Drexel Fire Department responds to house fire in rural Miami County Kansas

At 7:38 p.m. Monday evening Drexel Fire was dispatched to the 34000 Block of Cold Water Road rural Miami County Kansas in reference to a reported structure fire.

When fire crews arrived on scene the residence was fully engulfed in flames and mutual aid was requested.

Drexel Fire received mutual aid being equipment and man power from Louisburg Fire, Linn Valley Fire, Western Cass Fire, Dolan West Dolan Fire, Miami County Kansas Sheriff's Office and Miami County Kansas EMS.
 
We truly appreciate the help we received and thankful for the team work between each Department. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and no injuries were reported.

Drexel Fire would like to thank Jennifer Gruenberg and her daughters Katelynn & Alyssa, for bringing drinks and food for everyone on scene. And to Jay Sharp for bringing us cases of water as well!

We want to also say thank you to a neighbor who provided money to help pay for the supplies that were brought to the scene. We apologize we didn't get his name.

We are truly grateful for the continued support and Prayers from our Community. We are a Volunteer Department and do our very best day in and day out to protect our community to the best of our ability!

Obituary - Martin Alexander Hodges (Alex)

Martin Alexander Hodges (Alex)
Martin Alexander Hodges (Alex), 89, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Friday, January 27, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital  in Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri. 

Services will be held Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 2:00 PM also at the funeral home. Interment will follow funeral services at Englewood Cemetery, Clinton Missouri. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and left in care of the funeral home. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com.

Alex was born on December 27, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri.  He was the son of Martin and Ethelyn Hodges.  He had one brother, Jack Hodges.  He is survived by two sons, Mark Alexander Hodges and spouse Yvonne Hodges of Mesa, Arizona and Jefery Lynn Hodges and spouse Jean Hodges of Clinton, Missouri, as well as former daughter-in-law Karen Hodges of California.  He is also survived by six grandchildren; Tessa Nicole McKennan and Jason Michael Hodges (Lisa) of Florida, Summer Lee Hodges-Bridges (Jamey), and Kara Nadine Hodges, of California, and Lyndsey Anne Hodges Reichardt (Blake) of St. Louis, Missouri, and Kyle Martin Hodges (Cassie) of Clinton, Missouri, and three great-grandchildren; Noah Vazquez and Penelope Hodges of Clinton, Missouri, and Ava Reichardt of St. Louis, Missouri. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethelyn Helena his father, Martin Albert, his wife, Lois, his brother Jack, and his son, Gary Hodges. 

Alex was a high school track star and a member of the football team at Southeast High School in Kansas City.  He served as a medic in the United States Army during World War II, and then continued his education at Central Missouri State University by earning a bachelor's degree in education and a Master's degree in Industrial Arts.  Alex then served as an industrial arts teacher at Clinton High School, where he served for 32 years before retiring in 1987.  Alex was well known for being a tough but fair teacher, often making his students do pushups.  Alex served his community by volunteering for several organizations, including serving as a Scoutmaster.  Alex was passionate about the outdoors and land conservation.  He was a past member of the Missouri Native Plant Society, the Missouri Prairie Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, the National Wild Turkey Foundation, the Masonic Lodge, the National Rifle Association and the Truman Lake Chapter of Quail Unlimited (QU).  Alex was an eight-time Quail Unlimited President's Club winner, and Chairman of the chapter for nine years, as well as the recipient of the National Golden Quail Award in 2006, Quail Unlimited's highest individual recognition.  Alex loved to hunt, to listen to big band music, to tell jokes and to travel.  He and his late wife Lois often traveled cross-country and to Mexico, and as recently as last June he traveled to Alaska with his son Jef. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri.

No school at Drexel today

The city of Drexel is currently without water and due to this situation, classes are cancelled for today.

More updates, including status of ball games this evening, will be posted as more information becomes available.

With the structure fire west of Drexel  this evening the water tower level is low. 

The City of Drexel is requesting all citizens to conserve all water usage at this time! 

The City is currently working to get the water level back up. We appreciate the patience.
