Attorney General Hawley Announces Cass County Man Committed as a Sexually Violent Predator
Roy L. Veach |
The Honorable Michael Rumley signed an order committing Veach to the custody of the Department of Mental Health for treatment until such time he is safe to be at-large.
“Thanks to the hard work of local law enforcement and our attorneys, another dangerous predator is behind bars,” Hawley said. “Our office will commit and prosecute to the full extent of the law anyone whose actions pose a dangerous threat to our children and communities.”
Mr. Veach was convicted in 1989 of sexual abuse in the first degree for abusing a 5-year-old girl. He subsequently was caught multiple times exposing himself to children between the ages of 8 and 12. In 2002, he pled guilty to seven counts of second degree statutory sodomy for victimizing a 15-year-old boy.
At trial, expert witnesses testified that Veach suffered from a mental abnormality in the form of pedophilia and that he met the criteria of a sexually violent predator. After deliberating for a little over an hour, the jury found him to be a sexually violent predator.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorneys General David Hansen and Danett Padgett.

Funny money exchanged at Butler business
Andrew Jackson wouldn't be proud... This convincing fake $20 bill was passed at a Butler fast food restaurant recently, but as you can see by the mark through Andrew's forehead, it didn't pass the litmus test.
Thanks to low cost, high quality printers bills like the one shown here can look like the real deal. Retailers are urged to do a pen test for authenticity and try to get as much info about who passed it as possible- although perpetrators often wait until busy times to avoid getting caught.
While the person(s) who printed the above bill did a dandy job with details, they did manage to print the backside of the bill upside down, making the forgery a dead giveaway.
For the record- conspiring to counterfeit carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or fines up to five years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000; each count of passing counterfeit currency carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000.

Drexel: Water restored but boil order in effect
The city of Drexel has restored water, therefore school will be in session. Since there is a boil order, we will be providing drinking water for students and staff until the boil order is lifted. Thank you for your patience and understanding and thank you to the city of Drexel for working to restore water.
Please note that even though water has been restored, we do have a few issues to contend with at Drexel school:
#1 - We our under a boil order, as a result the water fountains are out of order and we will provide suitable drinking water.
#2 - When we came in to turn on the water, the valve that controls the older portions of the buildings has failed, so therefore at this time the only locations that have working water and restrooms are the North Commons (Kitchen) and the Elementary - these are the only restrooms operational until we can get the valve repaired. Please remind students of this and do not use any of the restrooms in the other parts of the facilities.
Thank you for your attention to this matter,
Superintendent Terry Mayfield
