Obituary - Donald G. Dillon

 Donald G. Dillon, 84, of Urich, Missouri passed away Monday,January 30, 2017 at his home. Donald's wishes were to be cremated with a family service at a later date. 

Family suggests memorial contributions go to the Golden Valley Shooting Range of Clinton, Missouri and may be left in care of the funeral home.  Fond memories and condolences may be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com .

Donald was born January 4, 1933 in Maquon, Illinois to Clarence Clifton Dillon and Rena Mae Bell Long. Donald was a proud member of the Teamster Union  for 22 years working for Jones Trucking Company in Kansas City, Missouri. He was an avid John Wayne fan, loved to play cards, hunt, fish, go to gun shows and to just sit and visit.

Donald is proceeded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty.

Donald is survived by one  son Rodney Dillon (Cheryl) of Nevada, Missouri, two daughters Pamela Thompson (Michael) of Urich, Missouri, and Cindy Butel (Phil) of Sapulta, Oklahoma, 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and other family members.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, Missouri.

Bates County Sheriffs Office abandoned and surplus property auction

The Bates County Sheriff will hold a public auction on February 24, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. to sell abandoned and surplus property. The auction will be located at 901 N Orange in Butler, MO. Items may be viewed one hour prior to the auction. 

The property will be sold as is without any warranties to the highest bidder. All sales are final. The highest bidder must pay for the item(s) they purchase at the auction in cash within one hour after the auction closes. Checks and credit cards will not be accepted.

Obituary - Dennis Lee Onwiler

Dennis Lee Onwiler age 81, of Calhoun, MO, passed away, Thursday, February 2nd, 2017 at his home.

Among survivors is his wife Elise, of the home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, of Clinton, and are pending at this time.

The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers to be aware of a phone scam currently going around the nation. An unidentified caller asks the question "Can you hear me now?" 

The response they are seeking is "yes" or "sure" so they can record your voice. If you receive this phone call, hang up immediately. The scammers are trying to capture your voice to verify purchases fraudulently. 

If you feel you have been a victim of this crime please call the local authority where the phone call occurred.

Bates county nearing dangerously dry levels

Low humidity + no precipitation = fire hazard

It's dry and it looks like the situation isn't going to get better very soon. It's almost tinderbox conditions and proof of that came last night in Merwin when a fire that started along the road caused heavy damage to a garage and a smaller structure.

It would be wise to avoid outdoor burning of any type, and make sure cigarettes are out before tossing. As shown below, our next reasonable chance of rain will be next Monday:

Butler man arrested in Bates County

On 2/3/17 around 12:45am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 31 year old Dale L. Murray of Butler, Missouri.

Mr. Murray was arrested for 1.) Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine 2.) Unlawful use of drug paraphernalia 3.) Misdemeanor Jackson County Sheriffs Office Warrant .

Dale L. Murray was booked into the Bates County Jail and he is currently listed as bondable.

Freeman man arrested in Bates County

Max L. Ash

On 2/3/17 around 12:44am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 38 year old Max L. Ash of Freeman, Missouri.

Mr. Ash was arrested for 1.) Felony Cass County Sheriffs Office Warrant 2.) Driving While Suspended 3.) Misdemeanor Cass County Sheriffs Office Warrant - Non Support.

Max L. Ash was booked into the Bates County Jail and placed on $2,750 cash only bond.
