Advanced Beef Cattle Reproduction and Genetics Meeting to be held in Kingsville

University of Missouri Extension and Kingsville Livestock Auction are sponsoring “Beef Cattle ReproGene, Taking the Next Step in Beef Cattle Reproduction and Genetics” meeting on Thursday evening, March 9, 2017 at the Kingsville Livestock Auction in Kingsville, MO. The program will begin at 5:00 p.m., with dinner provided. Presenters include Dr. David Patterson, MU Extension State Specialist – Beef Cattle Reproduction; Dr. Jared Decker, MU Extension State Specialist – Beef Cattle Genetics; and Jordan Thomas, MU Animal Science Research Specialist.

Topics covered during the meeting include: estrous synchronization protocols for heifers and cows, split-time ai and use of sex-sorted semen, EPDS and genomic predictions basics and using genomic predictions for increased profitabilty.

Another milestone for Pastor Ron Dunlap


Pastor Ron Dunlap celebrated his birthday on February 5th, which prompted another celebration- Pastor Ron gave his first sermon on his birthday, February 5th, 1989. 

All smiles, Ron shows a cake presented to him by members of the Happy Hill Church of God just outside of Rich Hill last Sunday.

Updated Obituary -Vivian Marie Franklin

Vivian Marie Franklin
Vivian Marie Franklin, 93, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, died Friday, February 3, 2017 at Lakewood Wilshire Nursing Home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the Holmeswood Baptist Church, 9700 Holmeswood Road, Kansas City, MO, with visitation from 10:00-11:00. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Vivian was born February 25, 1923 in Everett, Missouri, the daughter of Grover E. and Lula M. (Gilbert) McCaslin, the youngest of three children. Vivian attended elementary school in rural schools of Cass County, Missouri and was a 1939 graduate of Harrisonville High School. She attended C.M.S.U. in Warrensburg in 1939. Vivian taught school for two years in a rural school in Cass County before her marriage. She was united in marriage to Lyle C. Franklin of Drexel, Missouri, on August 22, 1942 in Santa Ana, California, where Lyle was serving in the Army Air Corps. They became the proud parents of two children, Larry Gayle and Gayla Lu.

Vivian made her profession of faith in the fall of 1939 and became a member of the First Christian Church of Harrisonville. At the time of her death, she was a member of Holmeswood Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Vivian retired from Kansas City Life Insurance Company where she worked in payroll. She had been a volunteer at Baptist Medical Center in Kansas City since January, 1985.

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle in 1978, her son, Larry, in 1955, her father in 1949 and her mother in 1979, and two sisters, Jewell Ritchie in 1995 and Florence Mullis in 2009. She is survived by her faithful daughter, Gayla Honeycutt and her husband, Richard, Lee’s Summit, Missouri; her beloved granddaughter, Jennie Pollard and her husband, Stephen, and two great-grandsons, Liam and Aiden; other relatives and friends.

Weston man arrested in Bates County

On 2/6/17 around 10:05pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in bates County arrested 43 year old Thomas S. Marshall of Weston, Missouri.

Mr. Marshall was arrested for 1.) Driving While Intoxicated 2.) Driving While Revoked.

He was booked into the Bates County Jail and placed on a 12 hour detox hold.

Butler woman arrested on warrant

Emily Nicole Slover
On 2/7/17 around 6:40am the Butler Police Department arrested 27 year old Emily Nicole Slover of Joplin, Missouri (Formerly of Butler).

She was arrested for 1.) Butler Police Department Warrant for Failure to appear in court.

Emily Nicole Slover was booked into the Bates County Jail and she is currently listed as bondable.
