Butler man arrested in Bates County

David E. Watts Jr.
On 2/8/17 around 6:26pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 32 year old David E. Watts Jr. of Butler, Missouri.

Mr. Watts was arrested for 1.) Felony Bates County Sheriffs Office Warrant - Passing Bad Checks 2.) Failure to register a motor vehicle.

He was booked into the Bates County Jail and $10,000 cash/surety bond.

Obituary - Lucy May Lindstrom

Lucy May Lindstrom, age 75, of Clinton, MO, died on February, 7, 2017. Lucy was born in Henry County MO, to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Stocking.

Lucy is survived by her son, Rick (Patty) Wittrock, Versailles, MO; her grandchildren, Justin and Derek Wittrock, Carrie Schad and Donald Stevenson; her great-grandchildren, Andrew Schad and Alice Stevenson; a brother, Eugene Stocking; sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Rosetta Stocking; and many nieces and nephews.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Delbert Lindstrom; sister, Rose; brothers, Phillip, John, and Robert Stocking.

Lucy’s wishes were to be cremated. Services will be held at a later date.

Update: Adrian man arrested after Archie Police Chase

Eric Collins
Eric Collins (DOB 08/09/1999) of Adrian, MO was arrested and charged with numerous traffic violations as well as resisting arrest by the Archie Police Department.

On 2/7/17 Mr. Collins led Archie Police on a short vehicle pursuit, that ended when Collins lost control and crashed his vehicle on NW County Rd 15502 just west of Hillside Dr. in N.W. Bates County.

Obituary - JoAnn McCracken

JoAnn McCracken
JoAnn McCracken, 82, Nevada, MO passed away on February 8, 2017 at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. JoAnn was born January 18, 1935 in Columbus, KS to James Howard and Nora Lea (Castleman) Jarman. On October 21, 1956 she was united in marriage to Lawrence “Neil” McCracken in Fort Scott, KS and he preceded her in death in October of 1990.

JoAnn graduated from Pittsburg, KS High School Class of 1953 and also attended Pittsburg State University. JoAnn served in the Vernon County Probate Office as Probate Clerk for 26 years before her retirement in 2001. She attended the First Christian Church in Nevada. JoAnn was a volunteer with the Women’s Hospital Auxiliary for Nevada Regional Medical Center, was a Girl Scout and Boy Scout Leader, and an avid Bridge player. She also enjoyed music and entertainment of all kinds, traveling and going on cruises with family and friends, and loved spending time with her family, and especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include two children, her son,Tim McCracken, Claremore OK; and her daughter, Jill Cash and her husband Peery, Nevada; four grandchildren, Taylor McCracken, and Allie McCracken, Claremore, Ok, Eric Hinkle, Wichita, KS, Drew Hinkle, Nevada; one sister, Sharon Campbell, Ft. Scott; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Neil, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan Ann McCracken.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor David Rorabaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call from now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church, Nevada in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.




Update: Drexel man injured in Bates County rollover accident

On 2/8/17 around 9:30am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Drexel Fire Department responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on CR 14001 around the area of the Drexel City Lake.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2012 Honda driven by 20 year old Travis J. Mercer of Drexel, Missouri traveled off the right side of the roadway, overturning and striking a fence.

Mr. Mercer sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by private vehicle to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Adrian Tire.

Brenda Jean Register age 67 of Foster, Missouri died Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Providence Medical Center from injuries sustained from an earlier automobile accident. She was born July 26, 1949 to William Ralph and Lillie Francis Hart Bradley in Miami, Oklahoma.

Brenda is survived by her husband of 51 years, Charles Register of Foster, Missouri; one son, Kenny Register of Foster, Missouri; three daughters, Dianna Schooley and husband Frankie of Springfield, Missouri, Melissa Chandler and husband Jimmy of Foster, Missouri and Kristy Smith and husband Dale of Foster, Missouri; one brother, Jim Bradley and wife Dianna of North Carolina; two sisters Deanna Flater and husband Nick of Rich Hill, Missouri and Shirley Brozzoski and husband Bill of Parkville, Missouri; ten grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren and one on the way. She was preceded in death by her grandma, Rosie Mayfield; her parents; one granddaughter, Rachel Smith; one sister, Martha Marple; and one aunt, Millie Carter.
