Obituary - Loucinda Maria Grant

Loucinda Maria Grant, age 33 of Nevada, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017 in Nevada.

She was born on October 26, 1983 in Nevada. Loucinda was raised in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School with the Class of 2000. She lived her whole life in Nevada and worked as a cashier for Ramey’s Grocery Store for several years and later for the Nevada Truck Stop. 

Loucinda’s greatest love was spending time with her mother and children. She also loved fishing and camping and helping out at the Nevada Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include her children, Kristofer Grant, Clearwater, KS, Kassandra Grant, and Kendall Grant of the home, her parents, Cynthia Caviness and Dennis of Nevada, and Douglas Starbuck, Sr., Nevada, three brothers, Douglas Starbuck, Jr, Nevada, Dewayne Davis, Farmington, IA, and Dennis Caviness, Jr., of Arizona, three sisters, Jessica Fredrickson, Oklahoma, Samantha Stringfellow, Cameron, MO, and Rebecca Davis, Keokuk, IA, her special friend, Roy Collins of Nevada, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Friday afternoon at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada and a Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday March 11, 2017 at the Nevada Eagles Lodge in Nevada.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the family c/o Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Attention Mobile Home Residents

HEADS UP: A line of strong storms will develop tonight and could produce a few tornadoes. While we don't expect the tornadoes to be widespread (maybe one or two total within the area highlighted), any tornadoes that do happen may develop very quickly with just a few minutes to warn for them.

MOBILE HOME RESIDENTS: If you do not have a designated shelter in your community, please consider spending the evening somewhere where shelter is readily available. Storms tonight may be dangerous for mobile home residents. 

A tornado could develop with just 5 to 10 minutes advance notice, in which case you may not have enough time to leave your home and get to a sturdy shelter.

Bates County Museum’s Annual Show & Tell Gathering this Saturday

The annual Show & Tell Gathering at the Bates County Museum has become a tradition and it will again be presented on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 10:30 am in Robertson Hall at the Museum. The Show & Tell Gathering provides an opportunity for folks to bring beloved or curious objects from home to share with others. Sometimes, there are interesting stories to accompany the objects but other times, the objects themselves are a mystery and the audience is invited to help determine what they might be. It’s always a fascinating meeting and has become one of the most fun gatherings of the entire year.

The Bates County Historical Society & Museum will hold a brief annual meeting to review the past year and the 2017 schedule. We will also say goodbye to three Board members who have faithfully served the Society for the maximum allowed six years. As we say goodbye to President Stan Sechrest, Treasurer Alan Mundey, and Secretary Joyce Grainger, we will then welcome the new Directors.

At the conclusion of the program, a Freewill Donation Luncheon will be served. The menu is Soup/Chili, Crackers,Veggies, Dessert, and Drinks. News from Ballard 4-H club

The Ballard 4-H Club met March 1st. There were 15 members and 12 others present. Meeting was conducted by President, Merritt Roach. Pledges were led by Alexis Britz and Macie Wainscott. Previous meeting minutes were given by Jack Rotert. Treasurer’s report was given by Garrett Oerke. Committees reported that trash bag inventory is now zero. Chili supper was a success and we wish to say Thank you to all who came out and supported our club. Tammy Roberts of the Extension Office gave a presentation on “how to do a demonstration.” Tammy made pumpkin bread from her Grandma’s recipe and it was GOOD! A seed planting activity was organized by Lilly Rotert. The Rotert family and Crust family provided yummy snacks along with our yummy pumpkin bread! Our next meeting is scheduled for April 5th.

Tornado Watch until 10 pm this evening

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Bates County and surrounding areas to be in effect until 10 pm this evening.

Kameron's Softball tourney was a huge success....they raised $3586 for Kameron!! The Homewreckers took the crown!!

One dead two seriously injured in Hickory County crash

On 3/4/17 around 4:38pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Hickory County responded to a two vehicle accident just West of Hermitage, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2001 Ford Ranger driven by 27 year old Jessie L. Butler of Collins, Missouri ran off the right side of the roadway, over corrected and struck the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 35 year old Christina R. Newbold of Wheatland, Missouri.

A passenger in Christina R. Newbold's vehicle 35 year old Albert W. Newbold of Wheatland, Missouri was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Christina R. Newbold and the other driver Jessie L. Butler both were seriously injured in this accident and both were life flighted to hospital's in Springfield.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene by Defreece Tow of Hermitage, Missouri.

This is Troop D of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 12th Fatality of 2017.
