Kurzweil's Country Meats named Wildcat Business of the Month

Congratulations to Kurzweil's Country Meats - Who was named Wildcat Business of the Month for February! Today Superintendent Frank Dahman presented the award to Chris Kurzweil, owner. Kurzweil's has partnered with the FFA for an annual fundraiser for many years. The business works with the Athletic Booster Club on a regular basis to provide concessions at football and food for student-athletes and Chris teaches community education courses through Cass Career Center. Thank you Kurzweil's for all you do to support our schools & students!

Neva Lee Gaines
Neva Lee Gaines, 70 of Odessa, Missouri passed away March 14, 2017 at New Haven Nursing Home in Odessa, Missouri. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Mullinax Funeral Home, 

Drexel Chapel (660-679-0009). 
Visitation will be held prior to services from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm Saturday also at the chapel. Burial will follow in Rockville Cemetery, Louisburg, Kansas. Neva Lee Gaines was born June 15, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri to Montie and Nora Dakin Gaines. She attended John Ruskin High School and worked for many years at the Sheltered Workshop in Higginsville, Missouri. Neva Lee loved her church, bingo, and never missed her game shows and soap operas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Viola Cooper, and brothers, Claude and Olin Ray Gaines. She is survived by her sister Carolyn Colombo and husband Tony of Higginsville, MO., brother Sonny Gaines of Odessa, MO., sister-in-law, Pamela Gaines of Belton, MO., along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Dorthy Burris will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. 

Visitation will be prior to services from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Woodfin Cemetery in Foster, Missouri. Contributions to Heartland Hospice.

Dorthy Edith Burris, age 91 of Butler, Missouri died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. She was born July 31, 1925 to Jacob Sr. and Charlotte Jane Jenkins McMillen in Worland, Missouri.

Dorthy is survived by nine sons, Ben Wurtz and wife Lillian of Maysville, Georgia, David Burris and wife Dora of Butler, Missouri, Larry Burris of Foster, Missouri, James Burris and wife Sue of Ridgeway, Missouri, Charles Burris and wife Shirley of Independence, Missouri, Carl Burris and wife Bonnie of Bothel, Washington, Tom Burris of Salem, Oregon, Dennis Burris of Butler, Missouri and Dwayne Burris and wife Dollie of Rich Hill, Missouri; two daughters, Evelyn Capehart and husband Larry of LaCygne, Kansas and Nora Newby of Springfield, Missouri; two brothers, Jacob McMillen of Bothel, Washington and Edwin McMillen and wife Velma of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Mary Wills and husband Morris of Harrisonville, Missouri; 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 10 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; three sisters; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and numerous uncles and aunts.









Warmer Weather By The Weekend

I know there are some out there that will be bummed hearing this. But no snow is expected today. We will however, be 10 to 15 degrees below our normal highs. But Spring-like temperatures return later in the week with St Patrick's day looking nice by the afternoon.
