Obituary - Della Mae Saffels

Della Mae Saffels
Della Mae Saffels of Harrisonville, Missouri was born June 9, 1929 in Independence, Missouri the daughter of Harry James and Ellen Mae (Titus) Tumlinson. She departed this life on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Crown Care Center, Harrisonville surrouned by love and family at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 21 days.

On October 27, 1945 Della Mae was united in marriage to Elmer Eugene "Gene" Saffels in Girard, Kansas.

Della Mae was a homemaker and a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Independence, Missouri. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Della Mae enjoyed painting, sewing and doing yard work. Gene and Della Mae had moved to Harrisonville in 1966.

Besides her parents, Della Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Gene on September 17, 1995.

Della Mae is survived by two sons, Ron Saffels and wife, Jeanenne, Rick Saffels and wife, Diane; a daughter, Cathy Roush and husband, Mick all of Harrisonville, Missouri; eight grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; her sister, Dolores Dickey, Pittsburg, Missouri; other relatives and a host of friends.

A graveside memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 24, 2017 at Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, Missouri. Cremation.

Jennifer Jo (Stevens) Shaw
Jennifer Jo (Stevens) Shaw, 38, of Pleasanton, Kansas died Friday March 17, 2017 from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident. Jennifer was born January 29, 1979 at Lawton, Oklahoma on the Fort Sill Army Base to Virgil and Brenda (Kurtz) Stevens. Jennifer graduated from Olathe North High School in Olathe and worked for several years as a manager of a Salvation Army Thrift Store. She married Jason Shaw on March 15, 1999. He survives. Jennifer''s dedication to her church and her community was well known. 

She was an accomplished photographer and a very creative person. Jennifer loved all children and enjoyed being room mother for her four children where she was known for turning every day events into extraordinary experiences. Jennifer was preceded in death by one son, Travis Shaw on November 20, 2001, and her mother, Brenda Stevens on July 21, 2005. Jennifer is survived by two sons, Isaac and Nicholas Shaw; two daughters, Gracie and Emily Shaw; two sisters, Crystal Stevens and Gina Faulkner; and her father, Virgil Stevens.

A funeral service for Jennifer will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Schneider Funeral Homes and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. A visitation will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, March 24, 2017. Burial will be in Pleasanton Cemetery beside her son. Obituary - Kyle Dean Nelson

Kyle Dean Nelson, age 32, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017. He was born on January 8, 1985 in Overland Park, Kansas the son of Tony and Jeanette Kasper Nelson. 

He graduated from Pleasanton High School in the Class of 2004. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Larry and Shirley Nelson. 

He is survived by his mother Jeanette Nelson, father, Tony Nelson, daughter, Payton Rose Nelson, maternal grandparents, Ronald and Joyce Kasper and two brothers, Justin Zinn and Chad Nelson.

Graveside service will be held 2 pm Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Linville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory Pleasanton Chapel.

Cleveland Missouri man seriously injured in early morning Cass County Crash

On 3/21/17 around 1:45am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Route Y at East 239th Street in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2006 Ford Mustang driven by 27 year old Daniel A. Bottemiller of Cleveland, Missouri failed to negotiate a curve causing the vehicle to travel off the left side of the roadway and strike a stop sign. The vehicle continued across the roadway and became airborne, striking several trees before coming to rest on its top.

Mr. Bottenmiller sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported by private vehicle to Belton Regional Medical Center in Belton,Missouri for treatment. The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by J's Southland tow.

Burglary at Henry County Dollar General Store

On Monday, March 20, 2017 just before 8:00 a.m. Deputy Lambirth was dispatched to the Dollar General Store in Windsor regarding a burglary in progress. The store clerk heard glass break near the front of the store and they locked themselves in the office until law enforcement could arrive.

As Deputy Lambirth arrived on scene a male subject had ran from the building carrying a cash drawer and other items and was going towards the Katy Trail. 


A neighbor to the store, who overheard the radio traffic, reported that they saw the subject running down the Katy Trail towards Calhoun.

Deputy Lambirth spotted the subject and the subject continue to run despite commands from Deputy Lambirth to stop. Deputy Lambirth was able to catch the subject. Taken into custody was Farris A. Higginbotham, age 39 from Sedalia. Higginbotham was arrested for burglary 1st degree, stealing, resisting arrest by flight, and property damage. Higginbotham is on supervised parole from the Department of Corrections and a parole violation warrant was also issued. 


Deputy Lambirth and Deputy Hodges returned to Dollar General and completed a search of the property and found no other subjects in the store besides the employee.

Mr. Higginbotham was transported to the Henry County Detention Center after being medically cleared for confinement and is being held without bond on the parole violation warrant at this time.





Obituary - Donald H. Gaynor

Donald H. Gaynor, 81 of Appleton City, Missouri passed away March 20, 2017 at Appleton City Manor in Appleton City. Cremation with private family graveside services to be held at a later date.

Donald Henry Gaynor was born June 23, 1935 in Whittier, California to Robert and Lucille Drake Gaynor. He graduated from Whittier High School and owned and operated his own plant nursery for many years. He loved the beaches and the casinos of California, and missed them terribly after retiring to Missouri to be near family.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and wife Betty Coats Gaynor. He is survived by his son Ronnie Gaynor and wife Laura of Banning, CA, and by his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.









Deepwater man arrested in St. Clair County

Micheal Taylor
On March 19, Micheal Taylor, 28, Deepwater, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant for failing to appear in court on two counts, class C felony domestic assault-second degree and class D felony resisting arrest. 

The warrant was issued on March 16 and bond is set at $5,000 cash only. The original charges stem from an Osceola Police Department investigation on April 24, 2016.
