Donald E. Cornell, 85 of Independence, Missouri passed away April 5, 2017 at his daughter’s home in Blue Springs, Missouri. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday, April 10, 2017 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). 

 A visitation will be held Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm also at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Donald Eugene Cornell was born July 7, 1931 in rural Butler, Missouri to Hal and Edith Hughes Cornell. He attended and graduated from Butler High School. He was united in marriage to Helen M. Scarnier on September 3, 1950. Donald joined the US Navy in January of 1952. He was honorably discharged in 1956 after serving during the Korean War. He then returned to the Kansas City area and began working for International Harvester Renewed Parts Center. He retired in 1986 after 30 years of service.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen Cornell in 2007, sister Edna Belk, brothers, Hal Cornell, Jr. and Walter Cornell, and daughter-in-law Judy Latham Cornell. He is survived by his daughter Kathy Heflin and husband Patrick of Blue Springs, MO., son Donald Cornell, Jr. of Independence, MO., grandchildren, Katie Heflin, Zachary Heflin, Jacob Heflin, three great-grandchildren, Dylan Heflin, Dakota Dills, and Lilly Heflin, brother Lloyd Cornell of Springfield, MO., sisters, Thelma Morris Wheatley of Butler, MO, and Ruby Cornell of Independence, MO., along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.





Harrisonville High School Principal appointed to NASSP

Congratulations to Harrisonville High School principal Jason Eggers who has been appointed to a national board. The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) announced the appointment to their Board of Directors on March 28. The NASSP Board is composed of principals from around the United States who guide the activities of the national association.

Eggers appointment fills a vacancy left on the board and his term will run through July.

Eggers has been a member of NASSP and the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals since 2000. He has served as the Northwest District MOASSP President and as a board member and President for MOASSP.
