GM recalling roughly 800,000 pickups for steering defect

DETROIT (AP) - General Motors Co. is recalling roughly 800,000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks worldwide.

The company says the vehicles can temporarily lose electric power steering assist, especially during low-speed turns. If that happens, the driver could lose control of the steering wheel.

The recall affects trucks from the 2014 model year. Most of the vehicles were sold in the U.S., but roughly 100,000 were sold in other markets.

GM will notify owners about the recall. Dealers will update the electric power steering software for free.

From the desk of Harrisonville Mayor Brian Hasek

Monday night the Harrisonville Board of Aldermen will be discussing the city's trash service and possibly considering accepting a bid for a new contract. As you know WCA acquired Town and Country Disposal who currently has the contract for Harrisonville.

The new bids are essentially for the same services accept for a change to the yard waste pickup. Instead of once a week they will only pick up yard waste once a month.

I know that many of you have been unhappy with the current service and I would encourage you to attend the meeting Monday night at 7 pm in city hall. I will ask for comments during public participation which is at the first of the meeting.

You don't have to give a big speech or be a great public speaker, just tell us what you think. Thank you all and feel free to leave comments about this if you cannot make it.

Heavy Rain Likely Thru Sunday Morning, Flooding Possible

It's still looking wet overnight across KC & surrounding areas.

Storms are expected to reform tonight around sunset and will persist through the overnight hours before moving out from west to east Sunday morning/afternoon. Scattered flooding possible; some areas, especially those sensitive to more rain due to recent heavy rains could see moderate to major flooding, so proceed carefully if outdoors tonight. There is a minimal threat for severe weather, mainly south of I-70 this afternoon and this evening. Gusty winds and hail around 1 - 1.5 inch are the primary concerns, aside from the larger flooding concerns.
