Traffic stop leads to arrest in Bates County

Phillip Thornburg
On November 4th a Deputy from the Bates County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on business 49 for multiple lane violations. The vehicle was driven by Phillip Thornburg (DOB 8/25/1961).

The Deputy advised Thornburg for the reason for the stop. Thornburg appeared to be nervous as he was sweating and shaking.

The Deputy searched Thornburg and located a container in his pocket. The container held a small bag that had a crystal substance inside it that was consistent with methamphetamine. The Deputy then searched the vehicle and located marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Thornburg was transported to the Bates County Jail. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance/Except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid. His bond was set at $10,000.00 cash or surety.
