Weather for Bates Co.... The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Southeastern Linn County in east central Kansas... Cass County in west central Missouri... Western Henry County in west central Missouri... Bates County in west central Missouri... Southwestern Lafayette County in west central Missouri... Jackson County in west central Missouri... Western Johnson County in west central Missouri... * Until 1000 PM CDT. * At 921 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Raytown to 8 miles southeast of Drexel to near Prescott, moving east at 55 mph. This is a dangerous line of storms with potential for embedded tornadoes and 70 mph winds. HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect considerable tree damage. 

Damage is likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. * Locations impacted include... Kansas City, Independence, Lee`s Summit, Blue Springs, Leawood, Raytown, Grandview, Belton, Prairie Village, Raymore, Grain Valley, Harrisonville, Clinton, Pleasant Hill, Oak Grove, Odessa, Greenwood, Lexington, Peculiar and Butler. This includes the following highways... Interstate 70 in Missouri between mile markers 6 and 48. Interstate 470 between mile markers 0 and 16. Interstate 435 between mile markers 61 and 75. Police chase ends in Barton County

On 4-18-2018 The Barton County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Crawford County Sheriff's Office stating that they had a vehicle pursuit heading towards our county. The chase of the vehicle stopped in a wooded area north of Liberal. 

The vehicle had left the road way and drove into the trees where the driver exited the vehicle and was on foot. Deputy Kirby and Lamar Officer Toby Luce with his K-9 Hondo assisted Crawford County just west of the intersection of NW 120th lane and NW 60th road. 

When Lamar City Officer Toby Luce and K-9 Hondo arrived on scene they immediately went to tracking the suspect from the vehicle. 

Dylan Freeze, age 24, of Liberal was located lying in the brush near a pond. Freeze was taken into custody and was transported to the Barton County Jail.

Shearer was convicted of Forcible Rape in 1995 and of Aggravated Indecent Solicitation with a child in 2005

• 10 Nursing Home/Hospice type deaths were reported for the period. Two were reviewed by medical record for possible injury involvement per protocol.

• On April 4, 2018 at approximately 09:00 the Bates County Coroner’s Office participated in the mock accident/fatality demonstration at Butler High School. Coroner Mullinax was out of the county for annual state coroner training conference. Deputy Coroner Mark Goebel responded and participated in the demonstration.

• On April 10, 2018 at approximately 12:32 the Coroner was called to a motor vehicle accident on East MO 52. Brad Colin was pronounced by Coroner Greg Mullinax at 12:48 with death being accidental in manner.

• On April 19, 2018 at approximately 19:45 the Coroner responded to Bates County Memorial Hospital Emergency Department per protocol. A 63 year-old male was pronounced by ER personnel with death due to natural causes.

• On April 24, 2018 at approximately 12:15 the Coroner was called to a residence on East 2nd Street, Adrian. Charles Grosshart was pronounced by Coroner Greg Mullinax with death due to natural causes.


Damaging Storms Possible Tonight

Severe storms are expected across eastern Kansas and much of Missouri by tonight.Primary threats will be damaging winds, but large hail and a few tornadoes are also possible. Storms are expected to move into northwest Missouri between 4-6 pm and work south with time. 

The KC metro should see storms between 7-9 pm. Any tornado that develops this evening and tonight will likely develop quickly and with little advanced warning. Please stay weather aware later today and tonight!





Update: One arrested after drug raid in Vernon County

A Nevada, Mo resident has been charged after a Sheriff’s Office raid on a home Tuesday afternoon, recovering suspected methamphetamine's and drug paraphernalia. 

Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said one person was taken into custody after his office served a search warrant at a residence on 1200 Rd southwest of Nevada as part of an ongoing investigation. Mosher said the suspect has been identified as 19-year-old John H Chappell. 

Charges were issued early Wednesday charging Chappell with Possession of a Controlled Substance (D Felony). Chappell is being held in the Vernon County Jail on a bond of $10,000 cash only.
