Traffic Stop leads to arrest in Butler

On 05-14-18 Butler Police received a call of a suspicious male near Fort Scott and Birch Street . Officers arrived and observed the male subject leaving the area in a white Chrysler 300 with no plates. 

Officers conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as William Jay Clinkenbeard Jr. from Kansas City Missouri. 

During the investigation Officers found Clinkenbeard to be in possession Methanphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Officers also received information that a male subject matching Clinkenbeard had stolen a cell phone from Koehn's Bakery. 

The investigation also found Clinkenbeard to be in possession of a stolen vehicle, stolen cell phone and stolen license plates. 

Charges have been filed on the drugs and paraphernalia, possible charges of burglary and stealing as well as traffic citations are pending. Subject is currently being held in the Bates County Jail on a 10,000 cash or surety bond.

Stolen vehicle from Nevada recovered in Kansas

On Friday May 11,2018 the Nevada Police Department took a report of a stolen 1995 Nissan Quest purple in color that was taken from a residence in the 300 block of E. Walnut in Nevada around 1:30pm.

The vehicle was recovered on Saturday May 12th in Miami County Kansas. 

The investigation is still pending at this time. Anyone with information please contact the Nevada Police Department.

Obituary - Darrell Earnest Harden

Darrell Earnest Harden, 83, of Nevada, MO went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Webb City Health and Rehab Center following a lengthy illness. Darrell was born July 7, 1934 in Walker, MO to John Raymond and Willa Rose (Edson) Harden. He was raised in Walker and attended Walker School.

Darrell married Ramona Maxine Long on November 16, 1956 and they made their home in Nevada. Together they had two children, Debbie and Chester.

Darrell worked many years at Key Industries and TufNut in Nevada. He was a member of Spoken Word Tabernacle in Moundville, MO.

Survivors include his wife, Ramona, Nevada; daughter, Debra Maxine (Harden) Savant, Nevada; son, Chester Ray Harden, Joplin; granddaughter, Chrissy Savant; brother, Donald Harden (Shirley); sister, Letha Kuppa; sister-in-law, Sherrie Praiswater; brother-in-law, Vernon Brundridge; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Magarette Kitsmiller, Gladys Newby, Rosemary Brundridge; and three brothers, Allen Harden, Marion Harden, and Charles Harden.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, MO. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Walker, MO. The family will receive friends from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Flags to be flown at half-staff today statewide

In accordance with Missouri State Statute 9.120, all flags at State and government offices will be flown at half-staff, statewide on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from sunrise to sunset to commemorate the sacrifices of the federal, state, county and municipal peace officers who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty.

Obituary - Wanda N. Neel

Wanda N. Neel, 92, of , Blue Springs, MO, passed May 10th, 2018. Services will be Wednesday, May 16th, Visitation 1:00 P.M., Funeral 2:00 P.M. at Floral Hills Funeral Home.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Neel, parents Everet and Lillie Wampler, and brother Chester Wampler.

She is survived by her daughters Glenda Lynn Butner (Coy) and Jan Marie Wheatley (Jim); grandchildren Coy Butner III (Michelle), Jeff Butner (Michelle Goforth), Danyelle Baker (Mark), Jerret Wheatley (Brandy); great-grandchildren Corbie Leslie, Brenna Butner, Blake Butner, Briar Butner, Nathan Baker, McKinzie Wheatley, Mason Wheatley, Jaxon Wheatley, and Emmarsyn Wheatley; great-great-grandchildren Truman Leslie and Norah Beth Leslie.

Obituary - Katherine B. Nichols

Katherine B. Nichols, 93, Nevada, MO passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Morningside of Nevada. Katie was born March 21, 1925 in Bullitt County, KY, the daughter of Charles E. and Artie E. Mobley Stark.

Katie grew up on a farm, graduating from Elizabethtown High School, Elizabethtown, KY, in 1942. She attended Campbellsville Baptist College, Campbellsville, KY, for two years. She worked as a stenographer at Ft. Knox during the rest of WWII and for three years after the war. It was during the time following the war that she met her future husband, John W. Nichols. They were married in Elizabethtown, KY, January 24, 1947.

Katie was raised in a Christian home and became a Christian at the age of 13. She was active in the Severn Valley Baptist Church, Elizabethtown which prepared her for the call into the ministry alongside her husband. She never preached sermons as such but her life was a tremendous sermon. Katie was a gentle, kind, loving person, a great wife and mother and servant of the Lord. She taught Sunday school classes for over 50 years and worked often behind the scene with her husband who served as Director of Missions for Nevada Baptist Association for 25 years. She served the Baptist churches of Vernon and Cedar counties in a number of ways.

All three of the Nichols children, Carol Jean Nichols, James M. Nichols, and John S. Nichols, graduated from Nevada High School and from the University of Missouri.

During the over 50 years in Nevada, Katie worked 21 years at the Nevada State Hospital as a stenographer. She also was active in the Garden Club, at the Bloodmobile, in raising three children, and keeping her husband on course. She was an avid photographer. She has been a member of little Sylvan Dale Baptist Church since 1962.

Survivors include, three children: Carol J. Nichols of Durham, North Carolina; James M. Nichols and wife Marilyn of Nevada; and John S. Nichols and wife Melissa, of the Philippines: six grandchildren: Allison L. Smith and husband Jeremy of Eureka, MO, Lori A. Schurle and husband Joe of Kansas City, MO, Andrea Wilson, Plano, TX, Cameron Nichols, and Elyse Nichols of Austin, TX, and Chase Nichols of the Philippines; five great grandchildren: Carson Smith, Maison Smith, Knox Smith of Eureka, MO, Walker Schurle and EJ Schurle of Kansas City, MO; and her sister-in-law, Jane Grimes, Elizabethtown, KY; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John W. Nichols, two brothers Stanley Stark, Alvin Stark, and her three sisters Clara Howell, Ethel Lovell and Aileen Conner.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church in Nevada with Rev. Hubert Fox officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
