A really good guess...

Anyone who drives 18 highway about 4 miles west of Adrian has surely noticed something different on the horizon- a 100+ foot tower with weather equipment on it. Although we haven't been able to confirm with the landowner, it appears the tower is being used for a wind study, to determine viability of wind power generation units.

Our crackshot  news sleuths Googled towers like this one and found they are generally used for just that purpose. We could be wrong...and it certainly doesn't mean the big fans are coming soon. Just food for thought.

In the meantime we'll try to continue to contact the landowner for confirmation.

Obituary - Lois Mae Keating

Lois Mae Keating, 83, of Moundville, passed away at her home surrounded by her family, Friday, June 15, 2018 following a period of illness. Lois was born October 20, 1934 in Milo, the daughter of James A. and Carolina Mae (Barnes) Dodge. 

She attended Bronaugh Schools and graduated from Nevada High School in 1953. She became a beautician during high school. After graduating Lois worked for Hallmark Card Company in K.C. for a time before returning to Nevada. Lois married her loving husband, Darrell Keating on June 6, 1954. She worked as a beautician at the Nevada State Hospital for 33 years, retiring in 1993. Lois will be remembered by her family and friends as being a devoted wife, and mother, who adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was very much at home on her farm, tending to the garden, the flower beds and living the great country life. Lois was a member of the Fairview Church in Vernon County.

Lois is survived by her husband, Darrell of the home; five daughters, Carolyn Otter of Nevada, Pamela Keating, Warrensburg MO, Linda Mae Knapp, Nevada, Darrlea Spees (John) Downing, MO, and Sherry Pfeiffer (Mike) Arlington Heights, IL; ten grandchildren, Kelly Otter, Tyler Otter, Karalee Gerster, Erin Forkner, Casey Knapp, Leah Knapp, Eli Knapp, Christy Knapp, Angie Knapp, and Jeremy Knapp; twenty-five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a host of extended family and friends. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Norma Miller, a half-brother, Peter Dodge, two son-in-laws; Jerry Knapp and Leon Otter.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2018 in the Ferry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bert Travis of the Fairview Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Moore Cemetery. Memorials may be made to “National Kidney Foundation” in care of the Ferry Funeral Home

Two wanted fugitives in custody in Vernon County

In a joint operation between Nevada Police Detectives & Vernon County Deputies two felony wanted subjects are now in law enforcement custody.

Moments ago near Sheldon, law enforcement took Shawn Foulk & Bailey Rodarmel into custody.

Both had outstanding felony warrants for their arrest. During the investigation law enforcement recovered suspected methamphetamine.

The two subjects are now being held in the Vernon County Jail.

Butler man escapes injury in crash

Thomas D. Sturgeon, 64, of Butler sustained minor injuries in an accident on I-49 shortly before 11am this morning.

According to the Missouri Highway patrol, a Ford F-150 driven by Sturgeon traveled off the roadway, crossed the median and came to a rest in the ditch.

Sturgeon refused medical treatment at the scene. The vehicle received extensive damage. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Adrian fire department.

Slain deputy has Bates County ties

During an inmate transfer yesterday in Wyandotte County, two Sheriff's deputies were shot and have succumbed to their injuries. Patrick Rohrer and Theresa King have been identified as the officers involved.

Inmate Antoine Fielder reportedly got hold of a deputy's firearm during the transfer.

Theresa King is mother of two children with father Anthony King of rural Rich Hill, MO.

Accident north of Adrian

Injuries are being reported in what appears to be a crossover accident north of Adrian near the AA highway exit. Adrian fire, EMS and the highway patrol are on the scene, expect delays if traveling through the area.

Butler man killed in Cass County Crash

On 6/15/18 around 2:02pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a multiple vehicle accident on I-49 at Route C at Peculiar.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2006 Toyota Tundra driven by 44 year old Karl O. Blaser of Butler, Missouri slowed due to traffic congestion when he was struck in the rear by 2004 Peterbilt semi truck driven by 63 year old Perry L. Mcleod of Aurora, Missouri causing the Toyota truck to overturn and travel off the right side of the roadway.

The Peterbilt semi truck continued on to strike 2 other vehicles before coming to rest.

Karl O. Blaser was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and he was transported to the Jackson County Medical Examiners Office.

All vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene by J's Southland Tow and Lazer Tow.

Two escape serious injury in Bates County rollover crash

On 6/15/18 around 6:10am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Missouri 18 Highway just west of CR 5001 in rural Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2000 Ford Explorer driven by 26 year old Mandy L. Sterling of Merwin, Missouri struck a deer in the roadway and traveled off the right side of the roadway overturning.

Mandy L. Sterling along with a passenger in her vehicle 33 year old Thomas C. Cumpton of Merwin, Missouri both sustained minor injuries in this accident and both refused medical treatment at the scene of the accident.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Adrian Towing.
